puesta del sol <> sunset
Made by nj dodge
the only real sunset evening I caught and this one is a long exposure with the neutral density filter and very little post processing (sharpening & contrast) - playa diamante, acapulco, mexico Our vacation culminated Saturday by two policeman pulling us over and trying to tell me I ran a red light in a circle, while on the way to the airport. It's quite likely I did. They were in a Nissan Sentra (I'm thinking security guard car) and it seemed like they began escorting a glass truck up the hill, when the whole time they were trying to pull us over. I told him 'no hablo espanol'. I hacked my way through the spanish and pretty much understood what they thought I did. I used 'por favor' a lot. They were going to hold my license at the police station in Socolo until I paid 800 pesos for the ticket. 'Donde esta Socolo?' I asked and it didn't really matter to me where it was, I didn't want to visit it. I told him 'no tengo dinero y mi familia vamos a aeropuerto a mi casa'. Eventually, I pulled all the dinero in change out we actually had - about 50 pesos, he motioned for me to put it on his ticket pad and that seemed to settle our differences of opinion, understanding or lack thereof. So, I'm pretty sure we wound up bribing them or they extorted us.... please see , gracias

sony
Made by nj dodge
Continuing to overcome the challenges in my mind with respect to taking portraits of strangers. I was as excited about this photo as any from the trip. Sony was the attendant in the resort complex's laundry room. One essentially paid about $12 USD to do your own laundry and have her put in the soap and softener. That didn't bother me at all. I walked around and took some night images in the resort itself. I also sat here for a while and read a book. I eventually asked if *es okay de fotographia or pintura de usted* while pointing at her. She pointed at herself smiling, kind of asking with body language *you want to take a picture of me?* She pointed down asking if right there was okay. I suggested she move a little by pointing. Afterward, I asked her name (como se llama) and told her mine, we shook hands. I showed her the portrait and a few other images I had just taken. She seemed happy and kind of honored. So, despite a certain vocal language barrier, body language got an assist on this image. (This was taken with a tripod and the existing light.) mayan resorts, playa diamante, acapulco, mexico

over_under

I didn't take these (I appear in them, David shot them), but I've got the prints and the negatives. nobody brought a camera to the trip so we bought a disposable one in Sanborn's, not realizing at first that it was waterproof. Regardless of this serendipitous event this set of characters always makes for interesting pictures (and situations). People, specially bouncers, remember the tall, the short, the fat redhead, the blond, and the other guy. The whole roll came out outstanding. when we had them developed at the shop they asked if they could keep a copy of and put it in the window, probably by the side of pictures of customer with Luis Miguel or Hugo Sanchez. On a later occasion we purposefully bought the same kind of disposable and the results were forgettable. you can not recreate the surprise and spontaneity. I should mention that alex is no longer obese

Jocy and the Windy Day at the Beach
Made by elgalofoto
I'm always worried about taking the camera out whenever I'm on a beach, you know, because of The Sand -suspenseful music- And this day in particular, was waaay too windy, so I tried to keep my camera hidden from the monstrous attack of sand, but I'm glad I took the camera out for this portrait. Another one for the 9/Friends series, which you can look in its entirety facebook @elgalofoto

Sunset in Acapulco
Made by Leti Click
This was my first day in Acapulco. It was also the first day in my life that I was in the Pacific coast. My first bath in the Pacific ocean. And my first sunset over there too. The sun went from yellow to a bright red; some time through this transformation I took this pic, which I like not only because of the nice light I tried to capture, but also because of the sunlight reflections on the water.

breakfast is served
Made by nj dodge
I stalked this great white shark, er, egret as it stalked fish for breakfast - playa diamante, acapulco, mexico I was going to make a diptych (a little problematic), because the next image was the fish half-way down its throat. it looked like it had a bulging adam's apple. it continued to take sips of water to wash it down. hah. don't *you* hate it when you get food stuck in your throat?

Hormigas mexicanas
Made by Yörch
;-) As good Mexican ants, these were cutting and taking this package of tortillas someone dropped accidentally in the street.

post traumatic fish syndrome
Made by nj dodge
the alternative title was *is that a fish in your throat, or are you just happy to see me?* the fish didn't know what ate him, and by the looks of it, this wasn't as easy as being swallowed by jonah this would have been the second part of the diptych, *if it weren't for those meddling kids* (see preceding image) playa diamante, acapulco, mexico do that thang again if you want

I normally try not to repeat subjects too much, except perhaps for bridges and I've explained why I think variation exists there, but I suppose this particular portion of one of the pools continued to draw my attention playa diamante, acapulco, mexico
