....yes yes I know what ur thinking, but hear me out first. My sister and brother in law kindly invited AND paid for us. I think they spent R500 per ticket so we accepted. And it was good to spend the evening with them. The concert itself was OK, at best. Let me stress this: I Am Not A James Blunt Fan. I remember the beautiful video on MTV and seeing Grown Men sing along to it. So, we waited, in the rain, outside the Grand West *cough*spit*phlem* Casino, after not having found Adequate Parking and walking about a kilometer whilst almost getting run over by some fucking people mover driving behind us ON the sidewalk. The Line took forever. It was like customs in Atlanta, just nastier and with more guards. And outside. The people arriving were getting wet, so we all squeezed in under the small roof of the foyer. Forget order, just focus on the doorway and ignore the perfume. Having the same hair and beard as Mr Blunt did not help either. I looked like a FAN, esp when everybody around me had short, gelled blonde hair with faded jeans. Male AND female. After getting body searched and stared at in The Line we got into The Casino. Another 20 mins of walking towards the arena and the crowd started to slow. Suddenly we realised that we were in Another Line. For the bar. The Only Bar. The space in this place is so cramped that everything just blends into one, big Line. Then, we waited in Another Line. This time holding cold drinks. We were searched again. The beers we had purchased from the Other Line were all refused at the door: plastic cups only (which are at the bar). So we're wet. And cold. And about to watch James Blunt... The concert was bearable, only because I didn't know any of his music and we had good seats, which nobody left for the duration of the show. James Blunt arrives. The people sitting in front of us tell my brother in law to keep it down (or else). James Blunt plays a lot of piano. All the music is live, thank God. So we all sit watching him until, in an unexpected attempt for appropriate response, he jumps off the stage and runs around waving his arms in the air. Everybody stands up and starts filming with cell phones. Then he hits a big gong. Everyone sits down. He shows us war-time photos of Bosnia and jumps off his piano. Everyone stands up again. Then he sings that Beautiful song, and does an encore.. Finally some people gather at the front of the stage. The concert ends after about an hour and we wait in another huge line. I'm mortified to realise that there are people here that I recognise. At this point we lose our hosts and after a phone call to say thanks we walk through more rain back to our car, where we wait for about an hour (seriously) to get out of the parking lot. I wrote the night off as valid research into a market I know nothing about, and quality time spent with my family. Concluded that casinos are only good for raising inflation, broken families and LSD. casino Fear and Loathing crowd arena gamble Goodwood family review screen live show act sing singer You're Beautiful rain wet cold waiting lines body search security beer Cape Town South Africa rain more rain Africa stage lights music musician band performance winter arena venue

Don't you think this dude looks somewhat like Michael Rosenbaum (plays Lex Luthor in Smallville)? :)

Jeremy of Dirty Skirts chills on a bean-bag after his gig. Not too sure who the chick is... I think I asked her if she was Louise Carver. LOL.
