Bamboo wearing skirts

All of the trees (and bamboo) here are donned by these skirts or sweaters for winter. The reason for this is to control/reduce the bug population. Bugs will crawl into these skirts for warmth instead of burrowing into the wood. In the spring the skirts are removed and are burned, thus killing many of the local pests.
