- Skansen Kronan is a hilltop fortification, southwest of the city center, built in the 17th century. In the 19th century it served as a prison, and now houses a military museum. Its twin Skansen Lejonet unfortunately finds itself in the middle of a railroad and industrial area but occasional tours are held.
- Close to Skansen Kronan is Haga, a city district with picturesque wooden houses from the 19th century. Don't forget to explore the more bohemian Långgatan streets (Första, Andra, Tredje and Fjärde Långgatan) nearby.
- The indoor Fish Market, called "Feskekôrka" because of the shape of the building, is located by the canal near the harbor.
Museums
- Gothenburg Art Museum , Götaplatsen . Housed in a magnificent edifice flanked by the theater and concert hall, it features a world-class collection of Nordic art. The adjacent Hasselblad Center periodically holds public exhibitions, and the Art Hall (free entry) features contemporary art.
- Gothenburg City Museum , Norra Hamngatan 12. Covers the history of the city and region from prehistoric times to the present, with emphasis on the 19th-century Swedish East India Company, which was once housed in the building.
- Universeum, Södra Vägen 50 . A new museum focusing on the environment with an indoor rainforest, experiment workshop etc.
- Museum of World Culture, Södra Vägen 54 . A cultural counterpart to the science-oriented Universeum, it's a museum of ethnography and anthropology, with a thoroughly contemporary approach. There are regular special events such as concerts, films, and lectures. Free entry to some of the museum's exhibits. Entrance fee: 40 SEK per year!
- Maritiman, Packhuskajen 8½. "The world's biggest floating museum of ships" consists of 19 boats of all sizes. The biggest attraction is the former military destroyer .
- Maritime Museum, Stigbergstorget, Majorna, explains the maritime history of Gothenburg, West Sweden and of the fishing industry; has models of sailing ships. There is a lookout, in pillar of the "Seamans wife", just by the museum where you can view the harbour.
- Gothenburg Natural History Museum, Slottsskogen . The oldest museum in Gothenburg includes a stuffed blue whale and is situated in Slottsskogen.
- Volvo Museum, Hisingen - yes of course, in the home town of Volvo you can view the past and present models of the Swedish car.
- The Röhsska Museum is the national museum of Swedish design and applied art.
Historical buildings
- Gothenburg Cathedral, Västra Hamngatan. Built in 1815.
- Christinae Church (German Church), Norra Hamngatan. Built in 1748.
- Crown House (Kronhuset), Postgatan. Built in 1643-1655, and briefly home of the Swedish Parliament. It currently houses Göteborgs Musik, and the surrounding buildings are now cafes and crafts workshops.
- Oscar Fredrik Church, Värmlandsgatan. The largest and most well decorated church. Built 1893.
The Botanical Garden in spring
Parks and Gardens
- Slottsskogen, a big English garden close to the Botanical Garden with a small zoo and old homestead houses.
- The Gothenburg Botanical Garden (Carl Skottbergs Gata 22 A) has an area of 175 hectares and was selected as the most beautiful garden in Sweden in 2003. Don't miss the rare Easter Island tree. Free entrance, except for the greenhouse.
- Trädgårdsföreningen , a picturesque garden with a very nice collection of roses in the city centre.
Itineraries
- Gothenburg is the starting point of the itinerary ''.

"Silent meeting"
Made by JanneO™
I took this at the museum of natural history in Gothenburg, Sweden. It's autobracketed 3 shots compo with +-0.7 exposures shot from tripod with long exposuretimes(2.5s, 4s and 6s) as I was using ISO100 to keep the noicelevels down and f11 to get deeper DOF. It also made all the people moving around in front of the camera invisible. For lense I used my Sigma 18-50 F2.8 on my Sony DSLR-A300. I tonemapped the image 2 times in Photomatix Pro 4. Each time different as one processing was for the ceiling and one was for the floor. This to get best result in both areas. I then masked them together with some parts from the original -0.7 exposure shot to get an optimal combination. This was done in CS5 as well as the final processing with sharpening and toning. I used about 30 layers while working with it. I usually don't get a chance to use my tripod when I have my family with me as there simple isn't time to set it up with my 3 year old son, Benjamin, running around but this time I pulled it off. I would love to hear your opinion now that I've put so much effort on this. Thank you so much in advance! Have a lovely day!...:D Cheers, Janne

FP Explore! I Love You
Made by Faisal!
I feel it in my fingers I feel it in my toes The love that's all around me And so the feeling grows It's written on the wind It's everywhere I go So if you really love me Come on and let it show You know I love you, I always will My mind's made up by the way that I feel There's no beginning, there'll be no end 'Cause on my love you can depend I see your face before me As I lay on my bed I cannot get to thinking Of all the things you said You gave your promise to me and I gave mine to you I need someone beside me in everything I do You know I love you, I always will My mind's made up by the way that I feel There's no beginning, there'll be no end 'Cause on my love you can depend I got to keep it moving It's written in the wind Oh everywhere I go So if you really love me Come on and let it show lyrics: wet wet wet

Keillers Park HDR (remake)
Made by mescon
LOBB (Large on black background) Remake of a shot I took April 1st 2009. Wanted to get a warmer feeling, less halos and more of a mood going on it this edit. Also, I wanted to see if I had evolved in my postprocessing skills anything. I think I have, but I'll let you be the judge of that. The post-processing was: 1. Open in Lightroom, convert to DNG. 2. Merge to HDR in Photoshop. 3. Tonemap in Photomatix. 4. De-noise and sharpen in Photoshop. 5. Crop and straighten horizon and some exposure-corrections in Lightroom. 6. Add framing and name in Photoshop. 7. Save as 8bit jpeg :-( Shot with a Nikon D300 and a 16-85/3,5-5,6 lense. ISO100 on f/3.5 @ 16mm (equiv. to 24mm on 35mm film).

Waterdrop
Made by mescon
LOBB (large on black background) I just purchased an SB600 flash unit which can be remotely controlled by the D300 (wireless). I thought I'd try something with it today, so I setup a waterdrop scene! :) Here's a . The water is dark because I poured alot of chocolate powder (oboy ftw!) in the water. The resulting droplet that comes back up from each impact is not yet heavily saturated with chocolate, so it's much brighter. I dont have a real macro lense, so I used a 50/1,8D, focused on a pen that I held where the waterdrops fell, then cropped out the areas around the water. Hope you like my first try :)

The ignored...
Made by JanneO™
I bought myself Sigma's 70-300 lens and had to try it out in the streets of Gothenburg. I've always been intrigued by the organized, or so they say, beggars we have in the city but I still pitty them. I took several shots of this man from a good 10 meters away on a busy market street, Fredsgatan to be exact, and have to say I'm pleased with the zoom my new lens can achieve. Some HDR processing and texture work and here's the result...:) I did feel sorry for him so I gave him some coins. Needless to say, no one gave him any during those minutes I took these shots of him...organized or not...:/ Hope you like it!...

Earth Hour 2009 | Gothenburg City | Timelapse
Made by cablefreak
#29 on Explore. High Definition time lapse footage from Gothenburg City (Göteborg) Sweden. Shot during the Earth Hour on March 28th 2009. Two locations: first a panoramic view over the city during the first 20 minutes of blackout, then overviewing Park Avenue during the final 20 minutes when lights came back on. The approx 1300 frames were photographed RAW with a Nikon D300 and batch-developed in Lightroom 2. The video sequence was created in Photoshop CS4 Extended with the image sequence feature, then edited in MAGIX Movie Editor Pro.

Schizophrenic
Made by u n c o m m o n
Facebook | twitter I looked in my stream this morning, and wondered why I have so many different styles, what makes me go in different ways, from super clean hdrs to this rusty and over processed. Perhaps its this place called flickr that makes go in different directions almost every single day. There are so many talented people on this site, you all make me a copy cat (or in your opinion perhaps schizophrenic)

The vikings are upon us and they may be wearing lipstick...
Made by Wilamber
The title which I feel has let me down a little is an attempt at humour. The boat you see is called Viking you can find more information about it here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking_(barque) and the building next to it with the starburst is lovingly refered to by locals as Läppstiftet (The Lipstick) more information here if you are interested en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skanskaskrapan Kind regards Will

El grandiosos de Intruso…
Made by JanneO™
Here she is again...revisited...:) I recommend the If you like this one you might want to check out my most interesting works set: Post edit: Some people have said this is a beautifully rendered picture but I'd like to point out that this is actually from a real photo. This is some lucky bastard's ride parked outside my work in the parkinglot. It is a bracketed(-0,7 0 +0,7) 3 shot exposure tonemapped in Photomatix Pro 3 into HDR and postprocessed with textures in Photoshop CS3...so there you have it...;)

Warehouse #HDR #photog
Made by mescon
LOBB (Large on black background) Nikon D300 + Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 @ 10mm - 9 exposures, f/3.5, ISO 100. Warehouse in HDR from 9 exposures. Shot with my new Sigma 10-20/3.5 which is awesome. I absolutely love the focal length! This place used to be an old repair shop for locomotives, but was later converted into a warehouse/terminal. Some of the regular visitors of my photostream will probably recognize the location :-)

Barken Viking
Made by McSnowHammer
An old ship, Barken Viking, is permanently anchored in Gothenburg city. It's a hotel and restaurant/pub. To sit on deck and enjoy the sunset with a cold beer is veeery nice. The bright blur to the left is the Gothenburg wheel spinning. 65 sec exposure with ND8 and PL filters on a Tamron 10-24. f22, ISO 100. Edit (about 1 hour after upload): Replaced image. Accidentally uploaded wrong version first time. A little less colors in this one.

No chocolate for you...
Made by JanneO™
Went for a Good Friday promenade in downtown and brought the camera. Here's one from a closed chocolate shop. And they were close on a Good Friday...where has this world come to!? Like hello! It's Easter...candytime! If you like this one you might want to check out my most interesting works set: Here's if you wanna have a closer look. P.S. If you look closely you can see my reflection in it...

Splash!
Made by u n c o m m o n
I gave Lucis art a run on a picture from this weekend. A shot from the The Liseberg amusement park, this is the Flumeride. As they say on the Liseberg homepage Catch the surf! You ride in logs that can reach speeds of up to 60 km/h when they go over the top and tumble down, down, down to land with a SPLASH in the whirling waters below! So this must be the part and it looks better big on black.

Perhaps large will do it for you. Tech note; Sigma 1020 @ f8 with Cokin P120/P121 on a Canon350d fitted to a Manfrotto tripod. 9*3 exp, tonemapped in Photomatix, stitched in PTGui , levels and curves, fooled around with the colors.

Sunday 13:34 | HDR
Made by Sven Ericsson
#145 on Explore, Jun 15, 2009. Gothenburg, Sweden. My hdr-phase continues. This is a view of the canal in the centre of the city from Brunnsparken with Christine church on the right. Taken at a flickrwalk today. It was great to see all of my flickrbuddies and hang out (as the kids would say), hope to see you all again soon! highly recommended.

New Years Eve 2009-2010 #photog
Made by mescon
LOBB (Large on black background) Nikon D300 + Nikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 @ 40mm- 12sec, f/11, ISO 100. Actually, this is a composite of three shots, each of 12 seconds. I used exclusion blendning from three pictures to get all the fireworks I took from this position.

"My future starts when I wake up every morning. Every day I find something creative to do with my life."
Made by Sven Ericsson
Högsbohöjd, Gothenburg. This morning I was greeted to a biblical fireworks of color in the sky. It looked like an oil-painting. A cup of coffe on my balcony in -3 celsius with a blanket over my shoulders. Watching the birds. This is going to be a great day! Quote by Miles Davis. (View on black recommended)

Dusk at Älvsborgsbron
Made by McSnowHammer
Today I spent the afternoon shooting Älvsborgsbron at long exposures. By the time I shot this, I had changed the ND110 to an ND8... I like how lights get really long reflections in water :) To get the foreground stones show up clearly, I blended in some HDR there. 601 sec, f16, iso200, tamron 10mm, ND8 filter
