Taken at the San Francisco Botanical Garden in San Francisco, CA, on 7/28/11 Also known as Leucospermum Cordifolium....this is one awesome flower. It is native to South Africa. The large flowers have yellow erect anthers and red ribbons that form the ball of the flower; they bloom in the late spring and early summer. (www.smgrowers.com) I tried to google a bit more about the flower but apparently actual veld fires are a problem and there's a lot of info on how to prevent them.
