I've always wanted to take a picture of the Giant's Ring from the window seat but it's usually dark when I'm flying into Belfast City or the approach is over Belfast Lough. As luck would have it the landing approach was over S/E Belfast and the plane banked just enough to catch this brief glimpse nicely outlined by the remains of the snow. Here is what the Lisburn Historical Society says about the Giant's Ring - www.lisburn.com/books/historical_society/volume9/volume9_...

A Saturday morning walk at the GIant's Ring near Belfast provides a fleeting moment of light - and the polariser happened to be screwed on already. This place is a henge monument, and an Area of Significant Archaeological Interest. What you can see are the stones remaining of what was once a passage tomb. The concensus seems to be it's getting on for 5,000 years old. It's fascinating for being so close to a major city. There is a ring around these stones of 180m diameter, made up of an earthwork 3.5 m high. Yes, I too can work Google and Wikipedia.

at the centre of the giant`s ring at Drumbeg, Northern Ireland, is this solitary dolmen... the sheer expanse up to the earthworks which make up the perimiter is breathtaking making the whole site seem like an enormous amphitheatre. This was surely a very special place in times long past.... It still feels more than special today.

Looking across the stones. This started off as a lomo-effect in photoshop, but the results weren't very good. I tried a black and white layer of the lomo and decided it was much better.
