The most number of children I saw

in one place in China... at the Beijing Zoo. Even so, there is not that many to be seen.. An interesting observation, I thought - the one child policy is clearly evident. There were lots of adolescents and adults but relatively few children to be seen... just look closely at my crowd scenes photos and see for yourself. Some of my business friends are complaining there is a shortage of workers for the factories at the moment.. one of the reasons being they suggest is the one child policy..

The Panda having its afternoon snack. Looks like a carrot. Afterwards it got really active, and was all over that tree stamp they have in their enclosure. Unfortunately I could not get any photo of that exercise. I was fiercly pushed away by local zoo visitors.

This panda was in the second habitat in the older building, busily taking down a huge pile of bamboo. I had to wrestle my way to the front of the window to get a good picture. No such thing as personal space in China!

I thought it was drugged, but with the help of Lightroom, I was able to see that the poor Panda's eyes are clouded with a white film... sadly, I think, the Panda is blind...

This the fifth attempt for that photo. Always got the light wrong. By then all the sales women noticed me and disappeared. Such a big variety of Pandas on sale. Amazing.

The gift shops in the panda area didn't really have great panda gear, but these umbrellas were pretty cute. We picked up a crappy panda magnet for 12RMB.

I didn't see any signs I could read that said the names of each of the pandas. This was the first panda that we saw coming into the giant panda area.

While there is an outdoor area for the big cats, the indoor cages at the Beijing Zoo are pretty bleak, similar to the San Francisco Zoo.
