Biergarten Restaurant

Germany (German: Deutschland IPA: ), officially the Federal Republic of Germany (German: Bundesrepublik Deutschland help·info), IPA: }, is a country in Central Europe. It is bordered on the north by the North Sea, Denmark, and the Baltic Sea, on the east by Poland and the Czech Republic, on the south by Austria and Switzerland, and on the west by France, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Germany is a federal republic consisting of 16 states (so-called "Bundesländer" or, shortened to, "Länder"). Grouped roughly by geography, these are:

Epcot World Showcase Germany Pavilion DSC_0638

The Germany Pavilion is designed to look like a German town, but with architecture from different eras and regions. The Platz (square) is decorated with a statue of St. George and the Dragon and a clock tower. The Biergarten, at the rear of the courtyard, sells traditional German food. The pavilion also has numerous small shops selling German goods, including dolls and cuckoo clocks. The area near the pavilion is decorated by an extensive model village with working model trains. Characters from the Walt Disney animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which was inspired by the version of the tale attributed to the Brothers Grimm, make appearances in and around the pavilion.

Night sets in on the World Showcase Lagoon at Epcot. Well, this is the last of my Epcot and Walt Disney World photos (at least for now). I hope to return there some day but it's on to new places for the time being. This isn't the greatest night shot but by the time I took it I was exhausted and didn't have a tripod so it's handheld. The next stop is Shanghai, China but first I'm going to take a couple days off from Flickr and enjoy a long Thanksgiving weekend. For those of you in the US, have a fantastic Thanksgiving. I'll see you all next week!


Mike's World Tour of Hats - Germany

In Epcot's Norway pavilion, we posed for pictures in Viking hats, and then had the idea to take photos in hats from each of the countries represented. (We found hats in every country but Italy.) Germany had the best variety of hats... and, naturally, I had to pose in several of them. The beer stein and the cuckoo clocks gave it all a very nice cultural ambience, although I think Christi was a little embarrassed.


Oktoberfest Musikanten

The Biergarten Restaurant located in the Germany Pavilion at Epcot's World Showcase. The Biergarten is a buffet style restaurant at Walt Disney World, serving lunch and dinner. The Oktoberfest Musikanten perform several shows dailey during restaurant hours. The shows are filled with singing, dancing, various folk instruments, and more.


"Hidden Mickey" Detail

There are three knights that stand above the entrance to the shop Das Kaufhaus in the Germany Pavilion in Epcot's World Showcase section. The shop is located to your right as you face the rear of the Germany Pavilion. This Hidden Mickey can be found in the center of the crown of the knight on the viewer's left.

When I took this I couldn't stop giggling over the scene of the man raking and the woman leaning backwards like she was falling. It seemed hilarious to me at the time but now I wonder if that's maybe because I had a slight case of sunstoke.

Dad LOVES the polka band that plays at the German buffet. Even if he isn't eating there (and trust me, he may be German in heritage, but he does not like German food) he will stand inside the door and watch the guys play. Cute, aren't they?
