I found these two are siblings and thought that I have to bring them a little bit closer together. La Sagrada Familia / Barcelona French Dome / Berlin La Sagrada Família (Catalan, 'The Holy Family') is a massive Roman Catholic basilica under construction in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Construction began in 1882 ! Antoni Gaudí worked on the project for over 40 years, devoting the last 15 years of his life entirely to this endeavour. On the subject of the extremely long construction period, Gaudí is said to have joked, My client is not in a hurry. After Gaudí's death in 1926, work continued under the direction of Domènech Sugranyes until interrupted by the Spanish Civil War in 1935. Since 1940 four architects have carried on the work. The current director Jordi Bonet, has been introducing computers into the design and construction process since the 1980s. -------------------- French Dome is a Protestant church located in Berlin on the Gendarmenmarkt across from the Deutscher Dom (German Cathedral). The first parts of it were built from 1701 to 1705 by the Huguenot community and was modelled after the destroyed Huguenot church in Charenton-Saint-Maurice, France. In 1785 Carl von Gontard modified the cathedral and built the domed tower. It was destroyed in World War II, then re-built from 1977 to 1988.

Konzerthaus / Gendarmenmarkt, Berlin - Mitte The Gendarmenmarkt is a square in Berlin, and the site of the Konzerthaus (Schauspielhaus) and the French and German Cathedrals. The centre of the Gendarmenmarkt is crowned by a statue of Germany's poet Friedrich Schiller. The Gendarmenmarkt is named after the cuirassier regiment Gens d'Armes, which was deployed at this square until 1773. The Konzerthaus is the most recent building on the Gendarmenmarkt. It was built by Karl Friedrich Schinkel in 1821 as the Schauspielhaus. It was based on the ruins of the National Theatre, which was destroyed by fire in 1817. Some of the columns you see here are parts of the destroyed National Theatre. And....the Gendarmenmarkt hosts one of Berlin's most popular Christmas Markets.

View from window of the Berlin Hilton, looking to the structures (or rather, the roofs of the structures) of the Gendarmenmarkt across the street. It is a lively scene of many statues high up in the air, a very “happening” place that few people see. The figures in the foreground are on top of a portion of the Deutsche Dom, or German Cathedral, an old German Protestant-Reformed church that is now a museum. The charioteer in the middle ground is atop the Konzerthaus, now home to the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. The dome in the background is the Franzoesische Dom, or French Cathedral, which was built for the Huguenots, who found refuge in Protestant Berlin following their expulsion from France at the end of the 1600s; it now houses the Huguenot Museum.
