Explored Jul 29, 2011 #175. Thank you! I've been a terrible photographer this year. My passion for it really sunk way low, and it isn't until now I'm starting to recover from the lack of interest. I'm happy that my lust for taking photographs is coming back, though I see my rest from it as a good thing. I have had time to find my creativity and inspiration without forcing it, and I can start to photograph again with a fresh mind. My lack of lust also have meant that I haven't been interested to come on here on Flickr, so my activity on my concats updates have been lacking. Hopefully, all this will slowly start to change from now on. I hope you have had and still have a lovely summer. Best regards, Emelie/Xerethra

Take me home, country roads
Made by I-DAVE
Incredible but true, this bright and sunny picture was taken in Sweden, september 2009, near Gamla Uppsala, where the Vikings used to bury their folk. After the hill there's a lovely farm-alike bar/restaurant, with fatty delicious cakes, the right reward for those who walked all the way from Uppsala train station up there. Winner of the contest L'Estate Fotografata on SSC-Italia. Related song Take Me Home, Country Roads, by John Denver (from the album Poems, Prayers and Promises, 1971, RCA Records) Country roads, take me home To the place I belong

Just to say Auf Wiedersehen :-)

Back from one trip - and packing for the next. No time for Flickr in between. So sorry These are The royal burial mounds in Gamla Uppsala en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamla_Uppsala - we passed them on the way to the east coast of Sweden where we celebrated Easter with my sister and her family. Home for two days before continuing on to Crete for a week - and then north to my parents - I will probably not have time for Flickr until the second week of May. :-(

Royal burial-mound
Made by trientalis (lacking Flickr-time...)
Gamla Uppsala is a historic centre of both religious and political power. A place of worship has existed on the site since the Iron Age and the first Christian church is believed to have been erected in the 11th century. By the 12th century it was a bishopric and by the 13th century it had dwindled to a parish church. The royal burial-mounds (here the East mound) have been excavated and found to be the graves of prominent persons from the sixth century A.D.

The world - 95/365
Made by Anek70
According to the people of Scandinavia around year 500 AD: In the centre of the world grows the World Tree, the ash Yggdrasil. The tree trunk is the link between different realms. Around the tree, the gods live in Asgard and the Mankind live in Midgard. Utgard, the land of the giants, is situated by the huge sea that surrounds all the worlds. In the depth of the sea the World serpent is coiled round the earth.

Grazie infinite!

The heaps at Old Uppsala
Made by Mack2
Uppsala was originally located a few kilometers to the north, at a location now known as Gamla Uppsala (Old Uppsala). Today's Uppsala was then called Östra Aros. (Old) Uppsala was, according to medieval writer Adam of Bremen, the main pagan centre of Sweden, and the Temple at Uppsala contained magnificent idols of the Æsir gods.

Café Odinsborg
Made by kenny_lex

Gamla Uppsala Burial Mounds

From the late Iron Age. Of the two excavated, one seems to be a male and the other a female burial. As a companion piece, a reading of part of the Voluspa.
