best meal
Made by sgoralnick
tiny restaurant-slash-gallery in galle fort that catherine had thankfully discovered on prior travels. we ordered our meal when we got to town. we left to go drink a bottle of wine atop the fort walls and watch the sun set into the sea. when we got back our meal was ready. we got double helpings. my favorite was the ash banana, which we assumed might be plantain, but aren't really sure.

Rebuilt market facilities
Made by worldwatch
These toilets, adjacent to Galle's large outdoor market, were rebuilt after the tsunami by the groups listed on the wall shown. Many people--out shopping for the holiday--were killed in this market when the waves hit.

Downtown Galle
Made by worldwatch
This bustling market area in Galle was flooded and partially destroyed by tsunami waves, two years before we visited. It is hard to picture the devastation, as the area is once again full of shoppers and sellers.
