Las Vegas: Fremont Street Experience
Made by wallyg
Fremont Street was the major street in the downtown Las Vegas casino corridor. It is, or was the address for many of the famous casinos such as Binion's Horseshoe, Eldorado Club, Fremont Hotel and Casino, Golden Gate Hotel & Casino, Golden Nugget, The Mint, and the Pioneer Club. Prior to the construction of the Fremont Street Experience, Fremont Street was the picture of Las Vegas that was included in virtually every television show and movie that wanted to display the lights of Las Vegas. The abundance of neon earned the street the nickname of Glitter Gulch. Fremont Street dates back to 1905, when Las Vegas itself was founded. While gambling was well established prior to being legalized, the Northern Club in 1931 received one of the first 6 gambling licenses issued in Nevada and the first one for Fremont Street. Glitter Gulch was closed to vehicle traffic in September, 1994 to begin construction on the Fremont Street Experience. The Frement Street Experience (FSE) is a pedestrian mall and attraction that occupies the westernmost 5 blocks of Fremont Street. The attraction is a barrel vault canopy, 90 feet high at the peak, that covers four blocks or approximately 1,500 feet. It was the first Las Vegas project of architect Jon Jerde, who went on to design the facade of Treasure Island, the Bellagio, and other projects on the Las Vegas Strip. The underside of the canopy is covered with an LED display, referred to as Viva Vision and built by the LG Corporation, programmed to show periodic sound-and-light presentations after dark. While Las Vegas is known for never turning the outside casino lights off, each show begins by turning off the lights on all of the buildings, including the casinos, under the canopy. While Las Vegas is known for never turning the outside casino lights off, each show begins by turning off the lights on all of the buildings, including the casinos, under the canopy. The initial display contained about 2.1 million lightbulbs controlled by 32 computers located in kiosks on the mall. The sound system, using speakers suspended over the mall, was rated at 350,000 watts. Strobe lights were added at some point to provide additional entertainment options on Disco Nights. Displaying images that looked real took some innovation. New techniques were developed to make these curved, low-resolution images viewable from the ground. One adjustment was to move images slowly across the display to prevent blurring. The 2001 upgrade to the sound system raised the power to 550,000 watts. The 2004 upgrade features a 12.5-million LED display and more color combinations than the original display. The old control system was replaced by a central control room using 10 computers.

+ 5 inside Recently made it back from in Las Vegas. Hadn't been to Vegas since I twas jus a little Ian, butt it only took about 5 minutes of driving into the city to understand the title it's earned as Sin City. Strip Club advertisements next to candy shops, drug dealers by police cars, beggars of every sort imaginable, litter crunching upon every step, half of the employees of any restaurant or shop were miserable and rude, and horrific, irritable traffic 24/7. We would get back everyday from the three-day concert at 8 am and the temperature would already be pushing 92 F, so we hid from the 105+ F heat of the day and slept inside, and when we left for another night of raging at 8 pm, it would still be 92 F. It was like a blow dryer to the face. Butt in the end, what really counts is that Sin City is Fun City. There's always something to do, and practically every Friday and Saturday night, there's something so fun and awesome in town, it's worth the drive from all over the pacific time zone. My buddies and I all brought our cameras to Vegas with us with the intention of catching a ton of awesome photos. Being so busy and on at tight schedule, my camera ended up with a whooping 14 shots, and that was the most outta all the camera kids. I'm ashamed for leaving my camera unused and alone for most of the weekend, I deserve a big photographic spanking. ___________________________________ A vundabar start to kick off the summer Sin City, Nevada

Fremont Street Experience
Made by Helen Beresford
Fremont Street dates back to 1905, when Las Vegas itself was founded and was the first paved street in the city in 1925. It provides the address for many of the original and most famous casinos such as Binion's Horseshoe, Fremont Hotel and Casino, Golden Gate Hotel & Casino and the Golden Nugget. It was the picture of Las Vegas that was included in virtually every television show and movie that wanted to display the lights of Las Vegas. The abundance of neon signs, like cowboy Vegas Vic, earned the street the nickname of Glitter Gulch. The Fremont Street Experience was conceived in the 1990's. The attraction is a barrel vault canopy, 90 ft (27m) high at the peak and four blocks, or approximately 1,500 ft (460m), in length along the historic street that started it all. The world-famous, one-of-a-kind entertainment venue is home to Viva Vision, the largest big screen on the planet. There are more than 12 million lights in the Viva Vision canopy and 550,000 watts of concert quality sound are pumped to speakers throughout the venue to produce an incredible array of eye-popping imagery and heart pounding music. Viva Vision shows appear nightly on the hour beginning at dusk and are free and open to the public. Concerts, special events, and roaming street performers entertain nearly 17 million visitors who come to experience the Vegas attraction each year. 100 Pictures #22 - Patriotic

Las Vegas: Fremont Street - Golden Nugget
Made by wallyg
The world's largest gold nugget on display, the Hand of faith, is displayed in the Golden Nugget lobby. Weighing 27.2 kilograms and 46 centimeters in length, the Hand of faith was found near the Golden Triangle in Australia, and put on display at the casino in 1981 amid a number of other gold nuggets. The Golden Nugget Las Vegas, Fremont Street, is owned and operated by Landry's Restaurants. It is the largest casino in the downtown area, with a total of 1,907 rooms. It has also maintained AAA's four diamond rating for past consecutive twenty-nine years. Steve Wynn bought a stake in it, which he increased so that, in 1973, he became the majority shareholder, and the youngest casino owner in Las Vegas. It was the foundation for Wynn's rise to prominence in the casino industry. The Golden Nugget was originally built in 1946, making it one of the oldest casinos in the city. It was owned by the Golden Nugget Companies, which became Mirage Resorts in 1989. The property was sold to Poster Financial Group in 2004. When Poster Financial assumed control of the Golden Nugget, they began to upgrade the gambling operation by installing new cashless slot machines and by increasing the maximum bet available at table games to $15,000. Their story became the basis for The Casino, a television series on Fox that premiered on June 14, 2004.

Las Vegas: Fremont Street - Binion's Horseshoe
Made by wallyg
Binion's Horseshoe, also known as the Horseshoe Casino or simply the Horseshoe, was named for its founder, Benny Binion, who bought the Eldorado Club and Apache Hotel in 1951. It was the first casino to have carpeting and comps available to all gamblers. Binion also instituted high table limits, even dropping table limits completely at times, which was an immediate hit. Benny served time in Leavenworth Penitentiary from 1953 to 1957 for tax evasion and was forced to sell his share of the casino to pay approximately $5 million in legal costs. In 1964 his family regained control, but as a convicted felon, Benny was no longer allowed to hold a gambling license. In 1970, Jack Binion began hosting the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Horseshoe. Eventually, the WSOP became the largest set of poker tournaments in the world. In 1988, the Horseshoe expanded by acquiring The Mint, a high-rise hotel on the west side of the casino. The expansion of the casino from this purchase provided room for Binion's first poker room. In March 2004, Harrah's Entertainment purchased Binion's Horseshoe. Harrah's Entertainment sold Binion's Horseshoe on March 11, 2004 to MTR Gaming Group. Harrah's retained the rights to the Horseshoe brand and the World Series of Poker when it sold the casino and hotel, but sold the Binion's brand

Because I am Bad and Evil™ and because I rarely take notes while shooting, since my hands are full of camera and stuff, I have forgotten this incandescent model's name. But I am going to find out, and when I do, I'll post it here. Edit: Friends to the rescue! This is West-Coaster Madeline Sinclaire, and my big oops and apologies for not being a better fact finder. In any case, Madeline is one of the volunteers who join our Merrie Flock of Photographers as we wend our way down through Fremont Street of a blinding midday, for the annual picture safari at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend in Las Vegas. The Fremont Street Experience is hosting a spectacular vintage car show, and a few of the owners, tickled at the parade of burlesquerie and cameras, agree to let the models touch, and even sit in, the gleaming vehicles. (Others let us get close, but no touching.) The master of this blazing 1963 Ford Falcon Futura can't resist the profusion of reds, and Madeline takes her place behind the wheel.

Revelations 14:6-7
Made by kompot.photo
This little series pretty much summarizes our trip to Vegas; Freemont Street is the main street through the old downtown of Las Vegas. As part of part of a well-intentioned urban renewal project, several blocks of the street were closed off, pedestrianized, and one big roof was then built over the whole thing (seriously!) The street was then re-christened “The Freemont Street Experience” and now exists as a perpetual Mardi Gras. Tourists from the all over the world are now free to enjoy the air-conditioned desert. Every hour, on the hour, the roof becomes a backdrop for “The Show”. Now the night we visited, a particularly aggressive group of Jesus freaks were busy preaching through a megaphone. (I suppose they figured that you should head straight to the belly of the beast to offer salvation.) After about an hour of their “Fear God” message, “The Show” started. At first a blast of green light fills “The Experience” and the first chords of “Don’t Fear the Reaper” start. Perfect! The music turns to “Sugar Sugar” as coke falls from the sky, and then runs through the menu of cards, gambling and scantily clad girls. Amen!

The Painter - Las Vegas HDR
Made by thestevenjcampbell
On historic Fremont Street in Las Vegas, a street artist creates on the spot works of art using common materials found in the average north american garage. What is simply spraypaint and some cut pieces of cardboard are used to layer, manipulate and create airbrushed pop art that are always only in Vegas works of art! ---- Photo information: This photo is the last of about twenty-one photos that I took. The process is true HDR in that there are three different images, 2 stops apart each. The reason there were so many photos was because the painter moves rapidly. He doesnt stop and most of the sets I took at the end I was sure he had moved his hands too much, and I would have to correct for ghosting. The end of the painting he was creating he slowed down and I got the three images that made this up. Camera: Canon EOS 20d ISO: 1600 f 3.5 Shutter Speed around 1/250 Lens Canon EF-S 18-55mm @ 18mm

Slots Mania

The 4 Queens Casino has a wide variety of slots for all gamblers including Penny, Nickel, Quarter, Dollar and $5 slots. Today I put $10.00 in a Wheel of Fortune Pennies progressive slot machine and played for about 3 1/1 hours. I wound up cashing out at $15.43. These machines are definitely loose! And let me give them kudos for being very tolerant of amateur photographers shooting inside the casino. The manager informed me that all Flickrites are welcomed to shoot at the 4 Queens! 4 Queens Casino, Clark County, Fremont Street Experience, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Pioneer Club
Made by wbeem
In 1947 Las Vegas chamber of Commerce hired a West-Marquis firm which invented the Fremont Street Cowboy Vegas Vic and his friendly Howdy Podner greeting. The Young Electric Sign Company was commissioned to build the neon version of the sign by the owners of the Pioneer Club. They then commissioned Pat Denner who modeled it after the image used by the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce in 1947 consisting of a cowboy in blue jeans with a yellow-checked shirt and red bandanna. Vegas Vic was then erected on the exterior of the building in 1951 changing the exterior of The Pioneer club forever.

196/365 Self Reflection - How can I pass up a day photo of a reflection of myself in 3 huge silver balls? How Vegas is that? This was taken on Freemont Street in Downtown Las Vegas. My wife and I usually take one trip to that area during our visit to Vegas for the kids t-shirts and a few extra souvenirs. Just enough to really drain out the wallet.

California Gurls in the Shark Tank
Made by pixieclipx
Golden Nugget, Las Vegas... Me & AM relaxing with refreshments in the pool. This pool is very cool, although not seen here, we are surrounded by sharks in a huge 2-story tank. We did not partake in the water slide that goes through the Shark tank... next time... having too nice of a time just chilling... so, perfectly placed or sheer coincidence? sheer coincidence!! call it skilled photograpgers!

Las Vegas! Golden Nugget!
Made by Leshaines123
An old photo now, I used to live in Vegas, and last time I went on holidays there stayed in the amazing Golden Nugget Hotel on Freemont, the original strip. Photgraphy is difficult there obviously because of the huge amount of bright light, but this picture is a crop from a portrait of friends, and it is bright and garish enough to remind of the party town of the world!!

Rock You!
Made by midmophil
If you have not been to the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas, you must go there and see this overhead giant screen. It is literally 2 million l.e.d. lights that extends for almost 3 blocks. There are also some 500 speakers that blast the sound everywhere. They put on a show about every hour. The whole street is just one big block party! Party on, Dude!

Wish I were there...wait, I was there!? I have decided to make my photo#700 a very special photo, something totally different from others in my album. A new experiment, I might call it, for people with a kind of different taste. However, I am kind of dissapointed from the feedbacks. Now with hundreds of hits, few would actually leave a comment.
