Swissair grounding: Basler Fasnacht 2002

This week (January 16th, 2007) the criminal proceedings against 19 managers and members of the board of directors responsible for the Swissair grounding in September 2001 have started at the district court of Bülach competent for the Zurich-Kloten airport area. During the first week, all accused board members (except Thomas Schmidheiny and Mario Corti) preferred to refuse to give evidence. The court has to decide whether the accused have commited criminal offenses or were just not lucky / fast enough to save the company from a difficult financial situation that has evidently been caused by their predecessors under massive pressure by politicians and the press. It is known that Mario Corti has been appointed Swissair CEO in the final phase just because he had some experience with finanancial restructuring of large companies. Political and economic scandals are always reflected in carnival mottos in Switzerland, so this gives me a nice excuse to post one more of my old (2002) Fasnacht shots ;-)
