Bellows Avenue Elementary School 2005

The Bellows Avenue Elementary named in honor of George Bellows, Sr., Franklin County Commissioner and architect, opened in 1905. Located at 725 Bellows Avenue, Columbus Ohio, the building closed in 1982. It is soon to become an onramp for I-70. Renowned architect David Riebel is credited with its design. Other Riebel school buildings in Ohio include Hubbard Elementary, Crestview Elementary, Heyl Avenue Elementary, Chicago Avenue Elementary (closed) , Linden Elementary, Michigan Avenue Elementary, West Broad Street Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary School and Medary School. Several Reibel-designed buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places including the Stoddard Block Building, and the Felton School (Leonard Ave. at N. Monroe St.) which was demolished in 1990 to make way for a public housing project – yayyyy Columbus!
