Santi Luca e Martina is a church standing amid the ruins of the Roman forum. The area in front of it in this picture is the Forum of Caesar The Forum Julium (Forum Caesaris) was the first of the imperial fora. The cost of the land, which already had been commercially developed, was more than a million gold pieces, paid for (ex manubiis) from the spoils of the campaign in Gaul. Dedicated in 46BC before it was actually complete, Augustus completed the work.
