Fortaleza
Interesting places in Fortaleza:Fortaleza (Portuguese for fortress, pronounced ) is the state capital of Cear, located in northeastern Brazil. With a population of over 2.4 million, it is the fourth-most populous city in Brazil and the second most important city in the region in economic terms, after Salvador in Bahia. Fortaleza has an area of 336 sq km. To the north of the city lies the Atlantic Ocean; to the south are the cities of Pacatuba, Eusbio, Maracana and Itaitinga; to the east is the county of Aquiraz and the Atlantic Ocean; and to west is the city of Caucaia.

- Praça do Ferreira is the major city square, and has stores, restaurants, and a movie theater as well as plenty of benches.
- Praça José de Alencar has plenty of greenery and is the place to catch the city's best street performers.
- Theatro José de Alencar on the south side of the above square. Visits every hour on the hour, except noon. R$ 4, 30 minutes.
- The relatively new Dragão do Mar culture center has an art museum and other modern attractions.
- Museu de Arte e Cultura Popular, Rua Senador Pompeu, near the beach. Located within the Centro de Turismo, this museum, housed in a single large room, displays many fine examples of folk art as well as boats and other cultural relics.
- The sunset, either from Ponte Metalica, Praia Iracema, or the beach by the fish market, Mucuripe.
- Parque Ecologico do Cocó, the city's largest, near the -mall.
- Cathedral, city centre. The closer you get, the worse it looks, with a parking lot and all. But it still has nice mosaics. Note the span between the initial works and the inaugural mass, above the main entrance.

Ponte Metálica

A Ponte dos Ingleses, popularmente conhecida como Ponte Metálica, é uma antiga construção, na Praia de Iracema, sobre a qual foi montada uma estrutura de madeira muito freqüentada tanto pelos turistas como pelos próprios moradores da cidade de Fortaleza. Sua construção teve início em dezembro de 1902 e se prolongou por quatro anos, passando a servir, até 1940, de viaduto de embarque e desembarque de passageiros e de cargas na capital cearense. Com a sua desativação, a Ponte Metálica passou, a partir de então, a ser o ponto de encontro preferido dos jovens, artistas e boêmios, que para ali convergiam para contemplar o pôr do sol, namorar, passear, etc. Após a estrutura de madeira, a estrutura original continua por mais uns 80 metros. Algumas pessoas arriscam-se para pescar no local.

Friday evening I had great fun going undercover again. Filled my memory card with pictures exploring night photography. Praia de Iracema (Iracema Beach) is a popular place with the tourists. Full of bars, restaurants and tacky gift shops. It is also home to Ponte Metallica (Metal Bridge) or otherwise known as Ponte Ingles (English bridge) as it was designed by an English company. It is in fact more of a pier than a bridge. And it was from the pier that I took these photos.
