And thither into an infinite ocean, 30 seconds
Made by Zeb Andrews
Each man has his own vocation. The talent is the call. There is one direction in which all space is open to him. He has faculties silently inviting him thither to endless exertion. He is like a ship in a river; he runs against obstructions on every side but one, on that side all obstruction is taken away and he sweeps serenely over a deepening channel into an infinite sea. ---Ralph Waldo Emerson I have posted this shot before in color...about two years ago. I recently returned to it and was doing some exploring. I found this, I liked it, and it fit well with this bit from Emerson which I have really wanted to post with a picture for a little bit now. I often feel like I am on that ship, coursing down a deepening river. It can sometimes be exhilarating and sometimes terrifying. But it describes far more eloquently than I can, how I sometimes feel concerning what it is that I do when I have a camera in my hand.

Astoria Sunset
Made by Zeb Andrews
A pinhole image I made the Saturday evening before the Trojan tower was taken down. The wreckage of the Peter Iredale is just out of sight to my right. This shot was only about 15 seconds long. Somebody once told me that the best way to watch a sunset is with your back to it. Sometimes the most brilliant displays of color are not directly where the sun sets, plus if you look backwards you can often get a preview of what the area above the sun is going to look like. It has proven to be good advice. I always take a moment or three to look over my shoulder during sunset to see what is going on behind me. This shot was taken 90 degrees to the sunset, so not straight back, but also not full on either.

Peter Iredale

The wreckage of the Peter Iredale at Fort Stevens outside of Astoria. As seen by my Zero Image Pinhole camera.

that can't be Oregon
Made by Pixton
It almost looks like a rainforest, but it's just a shot of the wilderness on the Oregon coast.

Weary Hull
Made by Imagemakercan
The Peter Iredale Shipwreck is disolving more and more each year. This is the hull portion.
