Duling School

It's impossible to take a good picture of Duling, but I wanted to get at least part of it before it turns into Fondren Place. Duling School was placed on the National Register of Historic Places about a year after I took this picture. It doesn't show up on the list at http://www.nationalregisterofhistoricplaces.com/ms/state.html but is included on what is obviously a more more up-to-date list at http://www.mdah.state.ms.us/hpres/nrhp_list.pdf (as Lorena Duling School).

Adam Klobetich

Adam Klobetich is travelling up the Natchez Trace as a cyclist and lays down some Colorado River stomp for the crowd at Sneaky last nite. He started musically with deaf metal, punk, funk, jazz, and then taught himself banjo in the city of musicians, Austin, Texas and last nite he blew me away with his originality. The troubadour is headed to Asheville and looking for local players along the way who are comfortable jamming instead of just playing traditional bluegrass. He understands the African influence in this stringed instrument and has a Mali flavor. I bumped into Mr. Klobetich at Mimi's Cafe at lunch.

The Auditorium - Fondren District

The Auditorium - Fondren District

From their web site: The Auditorium redefines the way people in the Jackson area think about food and entertainment, and changes the way outsiders think about Mississippi. The Auditorium couples world class southern dining and performance cooking with live musical sounds rooted in the Magnolia state. Get this: You can have your own table for a year via sponsorship. How cool is that? theauditoriumrestaurant.com 622 Duling Avenue, Jackson, Mississippi

Perhaps in the world's destruction it would be possible at last to see how it was made. Oceans, mountains. The ponderous counterspectacle of things ceasing to be. The sweeping waste, hydroptic and coldly secular. The silence. — Cormac McCarthy (The Road) Because it's a must to see the end as large as you can.

Muscat Gummy

My friend bought the candy because he enjoys them. I like it because of the hilarious Japanese translation: translucent color so alluring and taste and aroma so gentle and mellow offer admiring feelings of a graceful lady. I enjoy soft and juicy if it's in Engrish or not! Yes, I eat these things and I think, Hmm, graceful lady.

Fondren Soda Emporium

Fondren Soda Emporium

This wonderful place in Jackson is going out of business. The Fondren Soda Emporium, once called the best place for a first kiss by the Jackson Free Press, simply can't drum up business anymore. Made me sad. Well where the hell am I gonna buy Japanese candy and Moxie?

Let's call him Tamarind

I almost bought a bottle of tamarind-flavor of Fizzy Lizzy. I asked Will what a tamarind was, and he told me a monkey. I didn't want monkey-soda so I went with Sun Drop. Then I spotted this monkey in the Emporium's lounge area. I think it's a tamarind.

In the lobby of the Fondren buildinig, there's this big advertisement for some dude's photo studio. This one, with its naked lady in a pharmacy, covered in pills, made me think that Sunkist would love it. She likes to have pills. And eat them

My meal for the day - an 8oz burger and beer-battered fries. My mouth and stomach thank me. You know it's a good burger if you get the beef sweats. It's a great burger if if puts you in a beef coma! Taken at Rooster's in Jackson, MS
