Barcelona, Magic Fountain of Montjuic
Made by Klaus Dolle
Mies in perspective II, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Barcelona Pavilion

Interior of the Barcelona Pavilion. This was the German Pavilion for the 1929 International Exposition in Barcelona. Architect: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969). Location: Barcelona, Spain. The pavilion was disassembled in 1930. The architects Ignasi de Solà-Morales, Cristian Cirici and Fernando Ramos were commisioned by the head of the urban Planning Department at the Barcelona City Council, Oriol Bohigas, to research, design and supervise the reconstruction of the Pavilion. Work began in 1983 and the new building was opened on its original site in 1986. The onyx wall played an important roll in the design of the pavilion. Time was limited for the design and Mies recalled that is was winter at the time: ... since you cannot move marble in winter because it is still wet inside and would easily freeze and break into pieces, we had to find dry material. Eventually I found an onyx block of a certain size, and since I only had the possibility of this block, I made the pavilion twice that height, and then we developed the plan. The bronze sculpture entitled Alba (Dawn) was chosen out of the existing work of Georg Kolbe by Mies van der Rohe. It was not designed for this pavilion, but remarkably fits very well in the pavilion's scale and spacial flow.

The Barcelona Pavilion, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, was the German Pavilion for the 1929 International Exposition in Barcelona. It was an important building in the history of modern architecture, known for its simple form and extravagant materials, such as marble and travertine. The building stood on a large podium alongside a pool. The structure itself consisted of eight steel posts supporting a flat roof, with curtain glass walling and a handful of partition walls. The overall impression is of perpendicular planes in three dimensions forming a cool, luxurious space. Mies designed the Barcelona chair for the house. The Pavilion was dismantled at the end of the exhibition, but a copy has since been built on the same site. (Source: Wikipedia)

The Barcelona Pavilion, a work emblematic of the Modern Movement, was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969) as the German national pavilion for the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition. After the closure of the Exhibition, the Pavilion was disassembled in 1930. As time went by, it became a key point of reference not only in Mies van der Rohe's own career but also in twentieth-century architecture as a whole. Given the significance and reputation of the Pavilion, thoughts turned towards its possible reconstruction. In 1980 the architects Ignasi de Solà-Morales, Cristian Cirici and Fernando Ramos were designated to supervise the reconstruction of the Pavilion. Work began in 1983 and the new building was opened on its original site in 1986.

The Barcelona Pavilion, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, was the German Pavilion for the 1929 International Exposition in Barcelona, Spain. It was an important building in the history of modern architecture, known for its simple form and extravagant materials, such as marble and travertine. Because this was planned as an exhibition pavilion, it was intended to exist only temporarily. The building was torn down in early 1930, not even a year after it was completed. However, thanks to black and white photos and original plans, a group of Spanish architects reconstructed the pavilion permanently between 1983 and 1986. I'm very glad they did, as it's bloody amazing! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcelona_Pavilion

The Information Age, also commonly known as the Computer Age or Information Era, is an idea that the current age will be characterized by the ability of individuals to transfer information freely, and to have instant access to knowledge that would have been difficult or impossible to find previously. The idea is linked to the concept of a Digital Age or Digital Revolution, and carries the ramifications of a shift from traditional industry that the Industrial Revolution brought through industrialization, to an economy based on the manipulation of information... ...taken at the Plaça Espanya metro station...

Palau Nacional

The Palau Nacional in Barcelona. Didn't really gain much from the HDR but it brings out the reflectoin better than I could in the single exposure. It turns out Barcelona shuts off it's fountains in the summer to conserve water (although these ones are on at night on weekends). Kind of upset I couldn't get any fountain shots but at the same time I couldn't use it as a tripod if it was running. 5 exposure HDR
