This park is actually a green roof covering a parking garage. The architects and landscape architects planned this site to include grass, shrubs, trees, and lots of extra soil. You can imagine the kind of engineering infrastructure this kind of installation requires. Weight bearing and drainage issues are only part of the story. Consider this: the plants on this site grow and change, and this will inevitably affect the way this built environment functions. We often think of green roof environments in terms of the way they mediate temperature and runoff, but this one has the added attraction of providing a community focus.

The storm wasn't so bad after all! And it was a beautiful (if chilly) day today. Here's the Boston skyline looking towards Copley. The Prudential and 111 Huntington are in the middle and the old and new John Hancocks on the the right. It was the tower on my left that originally caught my eye though - I thought it looked like a light house. I don't know what it is - a cell phone tower perhaps?
