Light, the first thing you see when you open your eyes on Vishu, Kerala new year day. What a nice way to start your new year with light and other nice things around you. Add to that the beautiful arrangement of auspicious things like kanikonna (flowers that bloom only during the Vishu time)and other flowers, fruits, vegetables, rice, navadhaanya, coconut, betel leaves, arecanuts, gold jewellery, gold and silver coins, new clothes, mirror, bell metal lamps and vaalkannadi(metalic mirror), all arranged in a bell metal vessel called uruli.
