The Central Station bridge over Argyle Street, long nicknamed the helan'man's umbrella ( = highlandman's umbrella). The nickname derives from the supposed numbers of impoverished men from the highlands and islands of Scotland, arriving in Glasgow in the early part of the 20th century to look for work with little money in their pocket to pay for accommodation, who would seek shelter from the elements under the bridge, which is immense.
