The Palazzo, Las Vegas, Nevada (5)
Made by Ken Lund
The Palazzo From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search For other uses, see Palazzo (disambiguation). The Palazzo Facts and statistics Address 3325 Las Vegas Blvd Las Vegas, NV 89109 Opening date December 30, 2007[1] Theme European No. of rooms 3,068 Total gaming space 105,000 sq ft (9,800 m2) Permanent shows Jersey Boys Signature attractions The Shoppes At The Palazzo Lamborghini Dealership Casino type Land-Based Website palazzolasvegas.com The Palazzo (pronounced /pəˈlɑːtsoʊ/) is a hotel and casino resort located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, a suburb of Las Vegas. The Palazzo is owned and operated by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation. The property's design is marketed as being reflective of a modern European ambiance and luxury living. Parts of the resort were opened to the general public on December 30, 2007.[1] The official grand opening took place on January 17, 2008. The $1.8 billion resort features a Lobby where guests from the street arrive beneath a 60-foot (18 m) glass dome with a two-story fountain. Those approaching from The Venetian make the transition through a towering octagonal structure, itself topped by a glass-and-iron dome. Visitors to The Palazzo using the underground parking structure can take elevators or escalators from the underground garage and arrive in the center of the property's casino. Though marketed and portrayed as a stand-alone resort, The Palazzo is actually an extension of The Venetian Casino Resort and the Sands Expo complex on the Las Vegas Strip.[citation needed] The Palazzo Casino, like some other casinos on the strip, operates under the license of a related casino—in this case The Venetian's license. The resort's 642-foot (196 m) high hotel tower features 3,068 all-suite rooms and 375 concierge-level suites. The Palazzo is LEED Silver Certified—the largest LEED certified building in the nation.[2] Currently under construction, the 270-unit condominium tower addition The St. Regis Residences at The Palazzo will be the first residential offerings at The Venetian complex. The high-rise tower is being built on top of the 90,000-square-foot (8,400 m2) building that houses the Barneys New York apparel store. On September 4, 2008, Las Vegas Sands announced that it had come to an agreement with Starwood Hotels & Resorts to operate the condo tower as a signature branch of The St. Regis Residences with all hallmarks of the St. Regis brand offered to residents. The 20,000-square-foot showroom was decorated with Italian-imported marble and tile flooring, rich leather wall coverings, and vibrant artwork. Non-buying guests of the resort are granted admission to the showroom for $10, while children ages five and under receive free admission when accompanied by a paying adult. Admission to the showroom includes a Lamborghini Las Vegas lanyard, souvenir access pass, and a discount at the world's first complete Lamborghini accessories boutique on purchases over $100. [edit] The Shoppes at The Palazzo The Shoppes at The Palazzo feature boutique stores from the likes of Van Cleef & Arpels, Jimmy Choo, Piaget, Diane von Furstenberg, Chloè, Christian Louboutin, Catherine Malandrino, Anya Hindmarch, Charriol, and others. It also features an 85,000 square foot Barneys New York. [edit] History [edit] Construction Construction photo taken in July 2007As of February 27, 2006, the project had been under construction for over a year. Most of that time was spent digging the 4-story-deep hole to put in the underground parking structure. Then the building itself began gradually rising upwards. The steel fabrication and erection was supplied by Schuff Steel Company. By November 2006, the hotel tower had reached the 35th floor. Construction of the ground floors, including the parking garage and shopping center, were well under way. As of March 2007, the hotel tower's elevator core was complete, and the rooms area was rising to the top. The facade and windows were being installed on the lower floors. As of August 2007, the lettering on the side of the tower was finished and is topped out. As of December 20, 2007 the Palazzo was scheduled to open at least 1,000 rooms by December 28 in preparation for the Las Vegas New Years celebration. The casino and other areas of the Palazzo opened at 7pm on Sunday, December 30, after a delay of several days due to the Clark County permitting process. Upon its completion, the Palazzo displaced the Pentagon as the largest building in the United States in terms of floor space, by a margin of about 35,580 square meters.[3] The strucutral engineering was done by Walter P Moore. [edit] Film history An under construction Palazzo was the setting for an early scene of Ocean's Thirteen. The construction of Palazzo was featured on The Discovery Channel's Extreme Engineering. Was the shooting location of a few scenes in the third season finale of MTV's The Hills. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Palazzo

Wynn Waterfalls
Made by vw4ross
View On Black I typically always stay at the Wynn Resort & Casino when I go to Las Vegas. Everything about the place is first rate. Anyways, I'd always pass by these waterfalls each morning as I was walking over to Venetian each day. It was hard to snap a decent photo during the daytime or evening, as there was always a decent tourist crowd in front of these falls snapping plenty of photos. So I got up a little early one morning in order to capture a few images. Not really the result I had in mind, as I failed to take into consideration the flood lights would make a good exposure quite difficult. Next time, I'll wait around in the daytime until it is clear & give it a go with my ND filter. However, the rear waterfall looks OK & I kinda like the detail in the rocks.

Stratospheric
Made by photomat-
The Stratosphere Tower Las Vegas stands at 1149 feet and is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States and tallest freestanding structure in Nevada. Built in 1996, original plans were for a tower in excess of 1800 feet which would have made it the tallest structure in the world at the time. These were curtailed for fear of interference with flights into McCarran Airport. Features of the tower includes two observation decks, a fine dining restaurant called Top of the World and the three highest thrill rides in the world, The Big Shot, Insanity and Xscream. These are at 1081, 900 and 866 feet respectively. On a morbid note, five people have jumped to their death in the towers history!

Wynn Sunset - Las Vegas
Made by anadelmann
Wynn Las Vegas Resort and Country Club at sunset, one of my favorite urban pictures taken on my vacation trip, seems to be a perfect choice to go into the weekend. This five star casino resort opened in 2005, is located on the Las Vegas Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada and named after casino developer Steve Wynn. When we arrived in Las Vegas I thought we would already be too late for sunset pictures until I saw the Wynn. The late evening sun gave its front a beautiful golden colour. Have a great weekend, everyone. Suggest to view it

Taken with the Tokina RMC 28mm f/2.8 (from the recently purchased Contax 167MT) and a C/Y to EOS adapter from the Bay. Not the sharpest lens but it does have some interesting qualities that makes it worth using. Still looking for a Contax Zeiss 50mm at the right price and have been considering selling off my Rolleiflex Automat to fund more 35mm Zeiss glass. One of those seemingly good ideas that I will probably regret later! [ blog: Bright Lights and Vegas Nights ]

Modeling swimwear by Everything But Water, Fashion Show Mall, Las Vegas (IMG_1396a)
Made by Alaskan Dude
In August 2011 I was passing through Las Vegas on my way back to Anchorage. I stopped at the Fashion Show Mall to get out of the heat and noticed they had fashion shows going on. I checked two of them out - this one was fashions from Everything But Water, a national chain of swimwear clothing - the outfits were pretty cool, the models were also excellent. Great show and worth checking out. The only drawback was not being able to shoot with flash, but other than that it was a great experience!

Vivid Grain Inactivity

Out of focus, a perfect way to describe my photography of late. There have been sightings of me with a camera in hand though so there is hope yet that I might emerge from my lean streak of inspiration. Simple shots like this though put a smile on my face, the Electro 35 GT at f/1.7 with some cheapy Fuji Superia Xtra 800. [ blog: Bright Lights and Vegas Nights ]

Intersecting Trails
Made by photomat-
Another lurker from the hard drive. This shot is a bit out of control :) Played with the vibrance, recovery, contrast, brightness and blacks till I got where I wanted to be, i.e. garish! In the smaller size, the blacks look a little overdone, but it really comes alive for the larger size. Taken in the same spot from a previous upload that seemed to be liked. Interested in opinions on this. My 2 cents in a word: FUN!

Intersecting Movement

The intersection of Las Vegas Blvd & Sands Avenue Haven't had the time lately to shoot much, so here's something I took a while back and never uploaded. This intersection is one of the busiest on the strip with the Palazzo, Treasure Island, Fashion Show Mall and Wynn occupying a corner each. I get to drive through this five days a week on my way to work, happy happy joy! :)

Win with Wynn
Made by Crickontour
This was the hardest shot to get of the series. Due to a number of factors such as people coming down the escalator, the smaller sign moving up and down, and getting a black screen made this shot incredibly difficult to capture. I sat around for half an hour or so just waiting for the perfect moment. Glad I patient, I think this shot turned out beautifully.

Haven't shot any real long exposures lately, I think I'm overdue. So in the meantime, this is from last summer down on the strip. Enjoy your weekend! View on Black [ blog: Bright Lights and Vegas Nights ]

Shut Up And Let Me Go
Made by duncmc
One of several electronic billboards pumping out the latest iPod advert at the Fashion Mall on Las Vegas Strip. The desert heat was practically unbearable, and the Ting Tings on a 20 second loop wore thin pretty quickly. Shut up and let me go – that pretty much sums up Vegas. [Blogged]

Happy New Years From Las Vegas Nevada! Fireworks on 01 January 2011
Made by trail trekker
Sure, it's fun to be in Las Vegas for New Years but you DO NOT want to be on The Strip, stay at a place that's away from the Strip and avoid the large crowds, it's more fun and relaxing that way! I was pouring 2005 Raymond Vineyards Napa Valley Merlot to any adult viewers of the fireworks that were on the roof of the parking lot building:-)

The upper levels of Wynn Las Vegas
Made by macmaroon
While I didn't go in, I noticed it really wasn't busy. Either the hype didn't work, or no one cares about this place. Just another casino in a city filled with them... For more information about the new Wynn Las Vegas, please click on the following link: www.wynnlasvegas.com/

Pastel Choices for Color and Light

The umbrellas were much more fun to play with in composing pictures (as compared to those Chinese lanterns back in January) while we did some window-shopping in the hotel lobby to keep Ker out of the casino just a bit longer…
