Reflections of tax-payers money
Made by Netream
The Berlaymont building is an important governmental building in Brussels, Belgium. It houses the European Commission headquarters. The building was built from 1963 to 1969 and became the symbol of the European presence in Brussels. In 1991 they decided that a complete renovation was necessary and that asbestos protecting the steel structure had to be removed. The refurbishment lasted over a decade, and met with considerable criticism. The project was projected to be complete by 1997 but was delayed until 2004. Expenditure on the renovation was budgeted at £66 million but the final cost incurred is estimated at over £1 billion. So that's where all our money goes ... When it was finished they discovered that the building could house only 2,000 of the 20,000 Commission civil servants. So that's why they are still building in the area ...

Some of the well preserved Brussels houses, all now earning an excellent keep, facing the recently renovated Berlaymont building, which I am finding myself liking more and more!
