Crowd scenes for the film The Damned United were shot at Elland Road and at Saltergate (Chesterfield Town). The film is based on the novel by David Peace entitled The Damned Utd and covers the 44 days that Brian Clough managed Leeds United during 1974 after taking over when Don Revie left to manage England. 70s cars lined up for filming in the car park at Elland Road. From the right, Rear end of MG Midget, Hillman Hunter in background, Rover 3500 Series 1, Jaguar 420, Jaguar 240 (?), Ford Zodiac (c1964), VW Beetle, Audi 100S Coupe behind the beetle. I’m not sure of the one between the Jaguar 240 and the Beetle.

In many ways this match marked a new low point in the fortunes of Leeds United - well for me at any rate. Played on March 5th 2008, United put in a rather dismal performance in front of more than 20,000 spectators on a foul night, and paid the price with a 1-2 defeat - it could have been higher had the post not intervened. Even more irksome, was that I remembered Cheltenham Town's last competitive match in Leeds - not at Elland Road, but at Nethermoor where Guiseley defeated them 1-0 fourteen years earlier in an F.A. Trophy Third Round Replay. The attendance on that occasion was 1,139 souls.
