Histoire: L’église Saint Merri est née autour d’une chapelle où fut inhumé en 700 saint Merri. Elle devient l’église paroissiale de cette partie de Paris au XIème siècle et doit être reconstruite au XIIIème siècle pour accueillir le nombre croissant de fidèles. L’église actuelle fut bâtie au XVIème siècle en une seule campagne de travaux qui dura quarante années, ce qui lui donne une unité architecturale rare à Paris. Elle est de plus un des derniers témoins du style gothique flamboyant qui perdure au XVIème siècle dans la Capitale sans aucun signe de l’influence de la Renaissance. Néanmoins la décoration intérieure du chœur de l’église Saint Merri fut remise au goût du jour sous Louis XV, le style rocaille dissimulant le décor gothique. En 1732, l’église se fit construire un presbytère de style classique (76 rue de la Verrerie) et en 1743, une nouvelle chapelle commandée à Germain Boffrand fut rattachée à l’église, dissimulant toujours plus son caractère médiéval. Saccagée pendant la Révolution française pendant laquelle elle perd les statues ornant sa façade principale, incendiée pendant la Commune, l’église fut de nombreuses fois restaurée mais conserve de nombreux chefs d’œuvre des maîtres de la peinture française.

L'église Saint-Eustache, situated at the entrance to Paris’ ancient markets (Les Halles) and the beginning of the famous rue Montorgueuil, is a Parisian gothic gem built between 1532 and 1637. The church was the site of a young Louis XIV's communion and Mozart's mothers funeral. Among those baptized here were Richelieu, Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, future Madame de Pompadour, official mistress of Louis XV, and Molière, who was also married and buried here. The last rites for Anne of Austria, Turenne and Mirabeau were pronounced within its walls. The parish church dates back to 1223 when Alais started taxing baskets of fish sold nearby. To show his gratitude, he constructed a chapel dedicated to the Roman martyr, Saint-Agnès. It was replaced by the current church, which was named after the Roman general who was burned along with his family for converting to Christianity. Its interior plan is modeled on with five naves and side and radial chapels. Over the nearly one hundred years it took to construct, France became engulfed with the Renaissance style, which can be seen in many of the decorative elements.

Not too bad for this handheld shot of the nave in the St-Eustache church. But it's too grainy with ISO 1600. / Pas trop mal pour cette photo prise sans trépied de la nef de St-Eustache. Il y a tout de même un peu trop de grain pour moi avec l'ISO 1600.

Eglise St Eustache in the quarter of Les Halles in Paris. Less famous than Notre Dame or Sacré Coeur, Saint Eustache church have a great architecture. A must see place. Taken with a Canon 350D - 18-55mm
