In The Deep Midwinter

In The Deep Midwinter
Made by pch64
New Years Eve, 2008 Taken on a walk from Priddy to Wookey Hole via Ebbor Gorge The trees here are laden with ice crystals about 1.5cm long formed over 5/6 consecutive days of haw frosts The only sound audible was the breeze blowing gently through the branches. It was almost completely silent! Very picture postcard but, at -4C & c85% humidity plus, windchill we were not going to hang around The original, shot in RAW format, has been converted to JPEG cropped & the contrast has been marginally adjusted.

New Years Eve, 2008 Taken on a walk from Priddy to Wookey Hole via Ebbor Gorge The freezing mist clears revealing what appears to be a gorgeous blue day (above 1,200 feet) The light was terrific until the mist returned about 10 minutes after. The light made this shot, contrasting the hard landscaping of the wall with the ever softening winter scene looking Westward. The original, shot in RAW format, has been converted to JPEG but, is otherwise unadjusted.

An evening Shot over somerset out to the Bristol Channel from on top the Mendip hills. I used my new Canon EF 70-200 L F2.8 lens for the first time. Just sort of spotted this gate as I drove by and thought it was worth a shot. No filters on but some tidying up in Photoshop. If you look carefully on the left you can make out the Nuclear power station at Hinkley point near Brean Press L to view large Press F to Favorite it

Mendip Dawn

We walked up into the fields near Ebbor Gorge on the Mendips at dawn today. There were a few pockets of mist on the Somerset Levels in the distance, but a hazy sky made photography difficult. This shot is looking south from Ebbor Gorge over the village of Wookey towards Glastonbury with Glastonbury Tor in the distance. Take a look at my for more.

Butterfly On Bramble 1

A meadowy area on the edge of Ebor Gorge had loads of butterflies and a Dragonfly. Unfortunately it was too warm and the Dragon was too quick - not only that he never sat still. Here is a butterfly instead.

Another Butterfly on the bramble at Ebor Gorge. This one is much more tatty - probably due to close encounters with the wind or the local dragonfly.

Sort of like Hansel and Gretel, only with more arguing. And more getting in the car and going home at the end.
