Expectations
Made by eudæmon
I was determined to spend a whole weekend shooting - something I haven't done all year (carrying the Ricoh around with me is not the same). I didn't have any particular goal in mind, other than to simply enjoy myself. Often times, people say street photography is about being at the right place at the right time, but I strongly believe that our thoughts can help shape our experience on a given day. Not to say that you can will good scenes or interesting people into manifesting before our eyes, but it is one's attitude that can make or break a day. Or to belabor a saying - it is up to oneself to turn lemons into lemonade. Good opportunities lurk around every corner. This is something I really had to remind myself of, given I went for months without taking a single picture. I ran into this young gentleman yesterday. Upon request I won't release his name here but he really appreciated the fact I stopped by to converse. At first, I didn't even think of taking a picture - he was clowning around and making faces, knowing I was waiting for an opportunity to snap. It was only when I thanked him for his time and left that he relaxed and gave me two seconds to shoot an unposed candid. Overall, this set the tone for the day and I ended up having quite a productive weekend. I will post shots from this weekend, last weekend, and unposted NYC shots throughout the next few weeks. Have a great week, everyone and thank you for your inspiration! Please view large, you'll understand why I stopped to talk.

Voyeur #91 (Nuit Blanche @ 03:05)
Made by Doug Mo (Gone Vagabonding)
This shot took less manipulation than one might think. Just played with the curves a touch to up the brightness in the window. I also increased the colour saturation (such that there is) to add a little more punch to the light. I didn't have to do anything to ensure the negative space was pitch black -- I was shooting at three in the morning and used a fast shutter speed. Watcher Watcher is a multi-building video installation. Viewed on the windows of a series of houses, some of which Chen inhabited during childhood, images from her memories of growing up on D'Arcy merge with imagined stories that have occurred behind the buildings' facades over the course of the area's complex, history; fact is peppered with fiction. As viewers walk from house to house, they become implicated as voyeurs in the human compulsion to not mind our own business. At the moment
Made by saharsh
The parked cars were oblivious to the battle raging in the background. Over the course of the struggle, Scary cloud had grown in size and courage, its eyes blazing and tail fluffing to the size of a building. In a show of contempt for Man cloud it wielded its tamest (yet most intelligent) of weapons, the little feared Dolphin cloud, with flippers of doom and blowhole of injustice. Man cloud had little choice but to retaliate, reaching deep into his arsenal and emerging with the infamous Bunny-rabbit cloud, holding it by its cottonball tail and aiming the little button nose at the heart of the beast ahead, unwavering. With the setting sun at his back, Man cloud lashed out with what he assumed to be his final move. What happened in the following moments was the filling of legend, the stone of mountains. The teeny tiny plane to the left didn't know what it was flying into.

falling water
Made by barbera*
View On Black From Nuit Blanche 2008, Toronto. Katharine Harvey - Toronto, Canada Installation Katharine Harvey will suspend a quilt of recyclable plastic from the north side of the Ontario Power Generation Building, suggesting a suspended waterfall. The quilt will be made from recyclable plastic bottles and shaped into sheets of “falling water” by containing them in monofilament nylon netting and sewing the netting together into a quilt. Spotlights will light the installation from below so that from a distance, the audience will anticipate water but will instead find plastic trash, which has been magically transformed by theatrical coloured lighting to create the impression of falling water. www.katharineharvey.com/

My Miniature Chinatown
Made by Neil Ta | I am Bidong
www.iambidong.com One of my favorite spots to shoot in Toronto is the balcony of the Sky Dragon restaurant in Chinatown. You get a great view of the Toronto skyline as well as aerial views up and down Spadina. It's fantastic and you don't even need to eat at the restaurant! I decided to have a little bit of post-processing fun with Tiltshiftmaker. I haven't done one of these in probably a year. haha. Fun stuff. This photo was used on BlogTO's Morning Brew.

Walker Court II
Made by michaelTO
February 27, 2011 58/365 Explore #6 - Thank you! In 2002, Kenneth Thomson donated over 10,000 pieces of rare Canadian art and European objects d'art along with $100 million dollars to the Art Gallery of Ontario to expand and renovate the museum. Frank Gehry, who had grown up close by was hired as the architect. Gehry's renovation has truly transformed the museum and created many beautiful and inspiring spaces. The newly renovated museum opened in November 2008 to much excitement and long lines. This is a shot of the wooden spiral staircase that starts in Walker Court and winds its way up to the contemporary galleries on the 4th and 5th floors. I used a shot of this same space last summer, but I continue to be inspired by the architeture and the abstract shapes it creates.

No Shave November -- Week 2
Made by MSVG
Okay, I'll be honest. Normally no shave November is to support the awareness of prostate cancer but my goal was to raise awareness of Lung Cancer... why? My father is currently losing the battle against lung cancer. It's definitely the worse of the worse. I'm hoping and praying that he can survive... :( .................................. :( Rest in Peace dad! He passed away November 15th 2010 at around 9:30pm. Its a very tough time. He just passed away a couple of hours ago. Around 9:30pm (2am now) yesterday. He was diagnosed in June and all this happened so fast! I know I have to stay strong for my mom and brothers and grandfather but its so hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :'( Oh my lord!

Exhalation
Made by Jon .
It's been nearly 1 year since I started pursuing photography as a hobby. I feel I've accomplished a lot in that year and I still feel I have a lot more to learn. However, this photo has really taken me by surprise. I love it. I love it more than any other photo I've taken so far. There's something about it that sets it apart from the rest. Everything about it is almost perfect and it captures the spirit of a cold Toronto day. This photo was taken near College St. and University Avenue, behind Princess Margaret Hospital. I saw this plume of steam being exhausted from a manhole cover, so I poised myself for a shot. I took a few photos and this is the very first one I took.

Grafitti Alley #1
Made by Robert Warren
This is the first in a series of photos exploring Toronto's Graffiti Alley. Sandwiched in between Queen and Richmond Streets in Toronto, an alleyway runs from Spadina to Augusta. This is the main artery of what is known as Graffiti Alley. Almost every surface within this area (back walls, side walls, doors, doorways, lighting poles, fire hydrants, fire escapes . . .) is saturated with graffiti art. Although graffiti can be seen everywhere in Toronto, it is by no means as pervasive as it is in areas within other cities. So to happen upon Graffiti Alley, to see the concentration and density of graffiti for the first time, is quite surprising.

Handheld 3exp HDRI Toronto has the one of the largest Chinatowns in North America. It is centred around the intersection of Dundas Street West and Spadina Avenue, and extends outward from this point along both streets. without you, im nothing
Made by Obeliscal__
Strange infatuation seems to grace the evening tide. I'll take it by your side. Such imagination seems to help the feeling slide. I'll take it by your side. Instant correlation sucks and breeds a pack of lies. I'll take it by your side. Oversaturation curls the skin and tans the hide. I'll take it by your side. I... Take the plan, spin it sideways. I... Fall. Without you, I'm Nothing. placebo - without you, i'm nothing www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GqnDROi6l4

Sir Malcolm
Made by eudæmon
There are just some folks who have this gregarious, expansive energy about them. I had seen him a few times all over downtown but it had never been the right moment - until our paths crossed this Spring in Kensington Market. The portrait of Malcolm, sorry, Sir Malcolm (as he insisted), is the last up close and personal portrait I took in my hometown, time to change that again in 2011. Thanks for the wonderful Christmas shoutouts! Must be viewed large!

I think it would be a good idea if I got out of the way. These are the sacrifices I make for my work! Looking at this picture, you could hardly tell that the city of Toronto workers are entering their fifth week of strike. Without garbage pick-up, you'd expect Chinatown to be a post-apocalyptic mess...but it isn't. In fact, I've seen some vendors going to greater lengths to provide their own garbage cans next to the over-flowing city ones. I think they're doing a good job of limiting the mess.

People Boxed in at Queen and Spadina
Made by Jonas Naimark
The last day of the G20, protesters ended up at Queen and Spadina. Soon after stopping the crowd police boxed them in and began grabbing them out 1 by 1 to arrest people. They were standing there peacefully, many people weren't even protesting they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm not sure what the police's plan was. Shortly after this pic was taken it started to pour rain. Many of these people were forced to wait for hours in the rain in restraints.

Art Gallery of Ontario - Shoots and Ladders
Made by Joseph Vernuccio
I love this building for two reasons. One I love Frank Gehry, and two you can find it in my home city of Toronto. What's also helping my full on man crush for Frank Gehry, is that he's local boy born and raised just steps from the AGO on Beverly St. If you every come to Toronto make sure to visit; the only thing I dislike is that this is one of only two sections you're allowed to photograph. Project Tokyo! 009
Made by Daifuku Sensei
Project Tokyo! Dude's getting around! These tags are usually centered in the west end, but lately we've been seeing them more in Chinatown and further south. It's interesting finding these, as you notice that one's you've snapped pictures of previously have either been painted over or are no more because of completed construction, etc. East side of Spadina, one block south of College.

Joy Division, or, the Future Jeff Martin
Made by Christopher Brian's Photography
Some random dude on the streets of Toronto. He had a Richard Ashcroft vibe as he strode through the Bittersweet Symphony of a busy Queen Street (hehe, yes, I know that's silly). Anyway, he's got the look down and he's a fan of Joy Division so maybe this is the frontman for The Tea Party Mk II? Henry's Photo Club Daily Photo for April 5th! :) Thank you Henry's!
