Lower Falls Of The Genesee In Winter

I'm mainly posting this now with a picture that many of you liked...and thank you, I do appreciate the remarks. But I was thinking that some might have thought that all the impressive ice on the right hand side was a frozen waterfall. Not so, just frozen snow melt. here you can see pretty much the real waterfall with the other just barely seen on the right. (Note on 12-8-08 -- Neither of my 2 lenses for the Sony A-200, which I now use most of the time, will fit through the squares on the fence overlooking this falls, so my days of featuring this view are over unless I want to take the Sony H2 out there.)


2010 Waterfall Highlight

Here's a previously unseen picture of one of my waterfall highlights of 2010. One of those expeditions that I probably shouldn't have attempted, but later was glad I make the trip.....ONCE! I would never do this again! It took me about 20 minutes to get down from the top of the gorge on the west side which can be seen in the picture below and at least 45 minutes to get back up. If you go to the 3rd panel of the bridge from the left, that's where I started, slowly coming down at about a 45 degree angle to the river's edge.


Through The Fence Lower Falls

My thanks to by friend Christy, who told me about shooting the Upper Falls through the fence about 3 times. I finally got it today, Christy! I had to position my zoom lens carefully between the fence squares and still got some wire in on many takes. And of course I couldn't use a tripod. But it worked! This first picture did have some ghostly out-of-focus wire in the frame but I removed it with Elements. For the second picture I was able to use enough zoom so as not to have to deal with the fence at all.

I met Mick while he was taking a break. He and a few others were practicing in front of Lower Falls, then later on set up an obstacle course further down the river. He was clearly passionate about kayaking, having mentioned a number of different locations he'd just been to within the past few weeks. Lower Falls Close

I shot this through a square in the Driving Park Bridge fence. I like the closer view as the nice columns can be seen better. The junk trees in the convention side viewing and shooting locations on the side have grown up so much with all the rain we've had that shooting down there will be impossible until such time as the city sends a crew down there to cut the offending trees back....which will probably be never.


Lower Falls of the Genesee

The Lower Falls of the Genesee River in Rochester, New York is an impressive waterfall, crashing over a steep embankment along the river. The falls is visible from the Driving Park bridge. You can get closer to it by walking to the Lower Falls park. From this park, you can also see the Middle Falls.

There's an 8 foot high fence that makes taking pictures rather difficult. I could reach my camera over it, but this angled shot still picked up the fence in the lower left corner.
