La Donauturm di Vienna (in italiano: Torre sul Danubio) fu creata nel 1964 dall'architetto Hannes Lintl in occasione della Mostra Internazionale del Giardino (WIG 64). Da allora è diventata una popolare torre panoramica ed attrazione turistica. La torre è situata nel centro del Donaupark, costruito per ospitare la fiera dell'orticultura nel 22° distretto di Vienna, la Donaustadt. Con un'altezza di 252 metri, la torre è uno dei più alti edifici di Vienna. 779 scalini immettono nella sua piattaforma panoramica, la quale è ad un'altezza di 150 metri e può essere raggiunta mediante due ascensori che portano i turisti in alto in soli 35 secondi. Un giro turistico completo della torre dura 26, 39 o 52 minuti. La piattaforma è usata talvolta durante l'estate per il bungee jumping. Due ristoranti girevoli (ad un'altezza di 160 e 170 metri) offrono una vista varia sopra la capitale austriaca. Fa parte della World Federation of Great Towers. La Torre sul Danubio è inoltre una radio-stazione privata e sede di diversi servizi di radiotrasmissione. Nonostante assomigli ad una torre TV, la Donauturm non è usata per le trasmissioni TV (le maggiori stazioni televisive di Vienna si trovano a Kahlenberg).

Here's another panorama of the Austria Center Vienna, the venue of this year's ECOC conference. The shots for this image were taken from the top of the TV tower in the neighboring Donaupark, on which I went up during one of the lunch breaks. Unfortunately, that day was crazy hazy, so everything further away than maybe half a kilometer only shows up as white noise. Since downtown was much farther away than that, the panoramas in that direction are not really that interesting... Technical note: stitched from 3 portrait shots, nothing fancy this time.

Donauturm (Donau Tower) Austria-Vienna It is the Tower of Danube in the middle of Watter park in Vienna (Wien). This photo is taken from long distance, U1 Kagran U-Bahn (Metro) Station. A wonder of nature which lives only for less than 5 minutes. The sunset... I could see the Gods perfect creation of skies and the beatiful art of color combination... Very well done, and you would stand and stare at the scene till the last second of the light, shining from an never met place named Sun. The explosion of an atom, and Helium shines!

Yesterday I took a walk in the Donaupark. Usually you can see there a lot of people. But this time almost nobody was there. The reason: there was a huge black cloud over the park. Nevertheless the sun already started to sink and produced one of the most amazing lighting I have ever seen. I expected a cloudburst would start any second but somehow I managed to safely leave the Park. After a few minutes the clouds darkened the sun and the show was over.

When construction finished back in 2000, the Mischek Tower by Delugan Meissl architects was Austria's highest residential building at 110m. According to Wikipedia, it is still the world's tallest building made entirely of prefabricated parts ('Fertigteilhaus').

Another shot from the first successful test roll with my selfconstructed ultrawide pinhole camera. This one shows the original 2x1 ratio and almost the whole 10x5cm image size with a little loss due to straightening. It isn't that easy to frame a picture with this angle and no view finder. ;)
