Donaueschingen is a town in the southwest of Baden-Württemberg in the Schwarzwald-Baar District. It is located about 13 km south of Villingen-Schwenningen, 24 km west of Tuttlingen, and about 30 km north of the Swiss town of Schaffhausen. Donaueschingen Danube

Best viewed in original large size. The Danube River (In German: Donau) is the longest river in the European Union and Europe's second longest river. It originates in the Black Forest in the German town of Donaueschingen, where two smaller rivers — the Brigach and the Breg rivers—join; it is from this point that it is known as the Danube. The joining point (a spring or pond) is just to the right below where the statue stands (the statue seems to be pointing to the meeting spot). Plaques and various honoraria from throughout the world are on the stone wall behind the statue (to the left in the photo).
The Princely FĂĽrstenberg Palace

The history of this imposing palace goes back to the 16th century. It took on its present-day appearance when it was renovated between 1893 and 1896. The palace combines the demands of prestige with the comfortable living conditions required by a Belle Epoque villa. The architectural style certainly followed the example set by the French and this makes it unique among Germany's palaces.

On our way through the Black Forest from the Bodensee back to our friends' house near Strasbourg, we stopped to visit the Danube River in Donaueschingen. This is the town's Muenster, rising on the heights above the point where two small rivers meet to form the Danube.
