This was the venue for this year's ECOC conference and the place I spent most of my time in the week in Vienna. It's quite huge and modern, but somehow the organizers (again) managed to put the most interesting (and most attended) sessions into the smallest rooms. At least in Berlin they had a live video in an auxiliary room whenever a session was too full. I did miss a couple of talks that I would've liked to hear, because there was just no room. Pity, really. The exhibition was in a separate building (on the left), which was also something new to me. But then again, I didn't spend much time there, anyway... Technical note: stitched from 6 portrait shot (but cropped quite a bit) in regular, low-memory mode. The stitching was done from the RAW files in 16bit (as usual), but this time I added quite some fill light, since the scene was so high-contrast – so I guess this almost counts as an HDR.

want to do more of this sort of abandonment (modern urban concrete tristesse) here I worked a lot on composition as I wanted to show: the mandatory security cam, lifeless concrete, useless glass and of course the idiotic trees. all those classic ingredients for the perfect urban hell of which there is a lot on the Donauplatte. I hate this place but this is a stunning photographic location. Needless to say that a security guard came over: she couldn't believe that I was just standing there and photographing this :)

One of the first at least somewhat useful test shots out of my selfconstructed ultra wide pinhole camera. It shows the DC Tower 1 that is still under construction but is going to be the highest building in Austria when finished. As the text on the fence says, the tower consists of over 100.000 cubic metres of concrete. Due to cropping - framing nor exposure is easy without a timed shutter and a viewfinder - the image doesn't show the original 2x1 ratio of the camera.

The rounded ones are the UN buildings, built in the seventies, the rest has been added in the nineties. Donaustadt is the name of the district, and this they call Donaucity which is kind of half-translated. Lately they label it as Vienna DC -- well, desperately trying to be american.
