Start Demolition - Central Station - Rotterdam - Holland
Made by Leo Roubos
Wednesday morning 16 January 2007 round 9.30 AM the demolition of the Central Station of Rotterdam started. Alderman of Rotterdam Jeannette Baljeu took the first bite with a crane. It was national news. In the months before the demolition the words 'Centraal Station' were changed in 'Traan Laten' which means 'shed a tear' in English. Rotterdam Central Station was designed by the famous Dutch architect Sybold van Ravesteyn and was finished in 1957. The most important train station of Rotterdam is demolished for a bigger new station. The total demolition will take 6 weeks. In 2011 the new station must be finished and will also be ready to receive the high speed trains (HSL) to Paris.
