While much of the old pier was falling down, the steel conveyor structure was still more than strong enough for a very popular rope swing -- grab hold, jump off, and swing out into the Sound. The timid would start from the lowest deck, others would climb up a bit, some would even jump from the platform on top.

A decaying, disused pier at the old Maury Island gravel pit was a peaceful place to sit and think. (Best viewed larger if you haven't spotted the thinker....)
