My good friend John Hendry, he was born in this village. Here you see him looking up at the house where he lived as a boy and going down memory lane. The Dean Village (dene meaning ‘deep valley’). It was originally called the Village of the Water of Leith and is situated in the heart of Edinburgh. Eleven mills operated in the area at one time, powered by the fast flowing ‘Water of Leith’. The village dates back to about 1128.

The Water of Leith is the name of the river, it runs about 25 miles from the Pentland Hills to the port of Leith.
