Trip down Memory Lane

Trip down Memory Lane
Made by Jan Ronald Crans
In the 60's my grandparents lived in the 2e Jan van der Heijdenstraat in Amsterdam. When we visited them my brother, sister an I played mostly in the Sarphatipark, just around the corner. We were 5, 7 and 10 years old but I can remember it clearly. I moved to Amsterdam a year ago but never went back to this place. Made by AmsterS@m - The Wicked Reflectah
Unedited mobile phone cam shot of Big Kurl himself and his wickedwild Posse, Bang Bang Tomahawk a.k.a. Bang Tomahawk Bang a.k.a. Tomahawk Bang Bang, hanging out in the wonderful, dog(shit)-free zone of the Sarphatipark in, of course, Amsterdam. Big up to Big Kurl and Bang Bang Tomahawk, they are one of the hottest things in town at the moment, they're the new kids on the block that will break up, shake up and rearrange the Nightlife in the best city in the world with their crazyass Parties and their brand new&slammin' style that will burn your brain and clog your ears for years to come, Amsterdam watch out, haha :D On top of that they are really cool dudes (they even got a them!) and we go way back on a daily basis! Keep your eyes peeled for flyers, stickers or tattoos that will soon announce their wicked activities in this lovely city, you don't want to have to explain to your grandchildren that you missed the beginning of a new era ;-P P.s. If you look at this shot for more than 3 minutes, you can actually see the girls in the background slowly inching closer to the boys of BBT, they're just irresistibly cute and everybody was hoping for some of their sparkling, positive energy to rub off on them, true story! Thank God it's Friday, yay :D www.amstersam.com

Thanks to EVERYBODY to COMMENTS and VISITS in my photos!!! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * THIS PHOTO WAS CHOSEN FOR THE SCHMAP!!!!!! www.schmap.com/amsterdam/sights_rembrandtplein/#r=none&am... Amsterdam is the capital and largest city of the Netherlands, located in the province of North Holland in the west of the country. The city, which had a population of around 1 million (with suburbs) on 1 January 2008, comprises the northern part of the Randstad, the 6th-largest metropolitan area in Europe, with a population of around 6.7 million. Its name is derived from Amstel dam, indicative of the city's origin: a dam in the river Amstel where the Dam Square is today. Settled as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age, a result of its innovative developments in trade. During that time, the city was the leading center for finance and diamonds. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the city expanded and many new neighbourhoods and suburbs were formed. (Wikipedia)

Ceintuurbaan 5 juli-12

Ceintuurbaan 5 juli-12
Made by Noord/Zuidlijn
Nederland, Amsterdam, 5 juli 2011. Aanleg Noord-Zuidlijn van de Amsterdamse Metro. Station Ceintuurbaan/ferdinand Bolstraat. Voorzetwanden. The City of Amsterdam is building a new subway (underground) line. The tunnel is partly constructed underneath the old part of the city. The completion of the metro line is scheduled for 2017. Foto: Ge Dubbelman/Hollandse Hoogte

100% caffeine

100% caffeine
Made by mararie
i bought pure caffeine from brazil and received the package within a week! i was afraid that it wasn't allowed to import it, but i couldn't find anything about importing caffeine and luckily i received the package without problems (they even wrote the contents on the envelope, so i think it is legal after all). it is quite light, i brought 2 falcon tubes from the lab and 1 bag of 50 grams fits in 2 falcon tubes. i got 100 gram in total, so that's really a lot. an energy drink contains approximately 100 mg caffeine in total, so i can make 1000 energy drinks out of this. anyway, i'm planning to use it for other things, inspired by the caffeinated lip balms i bought some weeks ago. anyway, if i want to make drinks, i would like to weight it properly. i need a sensitive balance, but i don't feel like weighting it in the lab :)

Ceintuur Theater, Amsterdam - facade

Ceintuur Theater, Amsterdam - facade
Made by Roloff
One of the prettiest purpose-built cinema theatres in The Netherlands, the Ceintuur Theater was erected in 1921, designed by architect Willem Noorlander. It was also one of the first buildings in Amsterdam to be constructed of enforced concrete. This not only allowed for a stunning Art Deco facade, but also a balcony that didn't need support from view-obstructing beams or columns. The cinema opened on April 2nd, 1921. The last show was on the 30th of December, 1976. In Photoshop I've painstakingly removed all the tram's powerlines that were obscuring this masterpiece, which is my favorite theatre (architecture wise), with the Tuschinski. In 2004 the building got a national monumental status (Rijksmonument), #527853.

out of yarn

Made by mararie
oh no, i'm almost done with my norwegian stockings and now i've run out of white yarn! and i only need to knit 7/22 star plus 3 rows that contain 1/3 of white, how frustrating! even worse is that this colour of yarn is not produced anymore. i already had to knit this using yarns of different dye baths and now i run out of the real colour too. i have a dale of norway at home that is almost the same colour, but just a little bit more yellow. maybe i can borrow some of , i think she uses the same colour for her cardigan. but anyway, i won't be able to knit in the train tomorrow and saturday, how boring!

Reflections Of Amsterdam - Sharing Is Caring

Reflections Of Amsterdam - Sharing Is Caring
Made by AmsterS@m - The Wicked Reflectah
Unedited mobile phone cam shot of a guy&a girl sharing one bike, reflected in a puddle. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :) Sharing your bike with somebody else is a good thing, it saves resources and space in the street, if everybody in Amsterdam would take another person on the back of their bike, this place would be even lovelier than it is already...but with these harsh Winter weather conditions you have to be double careful, because if you fall, you both fall :) Almost weekend! www.amstersam.com

08/01/2011; Going for the third of 5 themes of the here: Rain. I didn't manage to think of something to go with the other 2 themes though (Ornaments and spring). It is almost too easy, but here's an applicable song (although you might have to ignore the slightly disturbing first minute of the videoclip :P ). And finally for now: I will be in Rome this weekend, so my activity over here is going to be reduced to a low as of the early afternoon. Will be back on Tuesday.

pattern of my estonian mitten. for the decreasing part: k1 green, sst1, knit pattern, k2tog1. repeat. this creates a nice green band where the sts decrease. thumb: i knitted a contrasting colour in between the 2 rows (where the blue line is drawn), then picked up 11 stitches on both sides of the thumb hole. i picked up (picking up with yarn, so that a new sts is made when picking up) 2 sts between the front and back of the thumb on both sides (so 4 sts in total). i prefer to pick up 2 sts instead of 1, to minimize the chance of getting holes there

Finally found the perfect title, Sam Cooke will live forever in my mind. The Amstel River, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Using Nokia N95. I'm reposting the new version of this photo for two reason: - I'de like to show everyone what I've been up to. This is for my upcoming portfolio. I retouched fourtyfive photo's for this very reason (see the set). - To thank all those who have helped me through the proces, including a lot of flickrfriends. Some who really went out of their way for support. They know who you are.

i bought a real venker astrowatch! i want this one for 7 years, but i thought it would be impossible to find one. they were made around 1980 in a limited edition of 1500 watches. now, astrologers pay a lot of money to get one 2nd hand. i could get it quite cheap :) for people that know somehing of astrology: it shows the medium coeli and the ascendant. i want to stress here that i do not believe in astrology (especially not the astrology that most people think it's astrology), but i like it a lot!

A serious frontal collision took place on a major intersection in Amsterdam due to a switch not being put back by the conductor which was the standard operational procedure before trams without conductor where introduced.

08/01/2011; Now a place . Well, yet anyway. And with a name like that, I guess someone liked to keep things simple whenever he or she opened up his or her bar... ;) Now photographing will be coming in first place whenever you'd have to name your favourite activities on these Flickr meet-ups, but having a drink in a bar will most likely come in second really close after the number 1 though. :D

Queensday Reflection

Queensday Reflection
Made by Souren 72 (in London)
This is me at Queensday 2008 in Amsterdam celebrating queen Beatrix' birthday. A pure reflection of the big crowd gathered on the Weteringplantsoen for the big TWSTD house party. I can recommend anybody to go to the Netherlands/Amsterdam once. Queensday is celebrated every year through out the country. It starts on 29th April, called Queensnight and continues till 30th April late next day. A big ORANGE and RED/WHITE/BLUE blast nobody is allowed to miss.

oliebollen

oliebollen
Made by graafschap
oliebollen (oil balls) are a dutch december snack. they're made of dough, raisins, and various optional ingredients like ginger and apple. traditionally, these are eaten on new years' eve, but have become more and more common in the autumn months as well. they can (and should) be bought from vendors in the street, or ideally baked at home (deep fried - lots of fun!). best eaten warm, and most prefer to eat them with lots of powdered sugar. yum!!

Some minutes before he left the Lekstraat depot. *In fact it is an excursion of the Dutch Tram & Railway enthousiasts' association N.V.B.S. The next year (1960) tramway exploitation would celebrate its 60th aniversary. The passengers were on their way to visit an exhibition. Ceintuurbaan near Ruijschdaelkade, December 27, 1959.
