El Danubi és un riu de l'Europa Central. Neix a la Selva Negra (Alemanya) i recorre 2850 km abans d'arribar a les costes romaneses de la mar Negra. El Danubi és navegable per a grans vaixells fins a la ciutat de Brãila (Romania) i per a vaixells més petits fins a Ulm (Alemanya), a 2600 km de la mar. La conca del Danubi comprèn uns 777000 km², distribuïts entre els estats d'Alemanya, Àustria, Eslovàquia, Hongria, Sèrbia, Croàcia, Bòsnia i Hercegovina, Eslovènia, Bulgària, Romania, i Ucraïna. El nom de la població s'origina en el castell medieval situat sobre d'ella, anomenat Dürrstein, de l'alemany dürr (sec) i stein (pedra). En aquest castell, el rei anglès Ricard Cor de Lleó fou fet captiu pel duc Leopold V després d'una batalla durant la Tercera Croada a l'any 1193. I can safely say this was the most amazing cemetary I have ever seen. Most are drab and dreary. The community wanted this to be something the tourists saw too apparently because they made it known where it was and how to get there. Such a beautiful place and I thought that was an incredible tribute to their loved ones.

This is the ruins of the castle that held Richard the Lionhearted for a few months for crimes during the Crusades. A ransom was paid and he was freed.
