Up until April 2007, the Polk station was a transfer point between the Pink Line and the rush-hour only Douglas branch Blue Line. After the Pink Line took over all service on the Douglas branch, the CTA didn't replace much of the Blue Line signage but rather covered it up with paint, to mixed results as seen here.

This is Polk on the Blue line, 54th/Cermak extension. I went on a tour of the Chicago L, and the neighborhoods and suburbs it serves, on March 10th, 2006. The tour was sponsored by UIC, the American Association of Geographers, and obviously the CTA.
