Scars from the original Highway 101 are still visible along the cliffs over 70 years after it was re-routed inland. This is looking south from the Coastal Trail past the end of Endert's Beach Road a few miles south of Crescent City, CA. US Highway 101 ran along the cliffs above the ocean south of Crescent City between 1924 and 1934, but huge chunks of it kept giving way, so it was re-routed in 1934/35. The Coastal Trail still follows portions of the old road. Here's what it looked like in the 1920's: .
