This courthouse was built in 1937. The county was named for Moctezuma II when it was believed that the nearby Mesa Verde ruins where left by the Aztecs, which is similar to how the town of Aztec, New Mexico was named. Interestingly they named the county seat for the man who conquered the Aztecs and was in a way responsible for the death of Moctezuma II: Hernando Cortez.

Our very pregnant waitress took our picture for us. As you can see we are already happy. By the way - the food was excellent. I had a pizza, KAK had a steak, and it was all wonderful!
