There is some speculation over why there is a wedge missing from the nearest ball of Clare College's bridge. The reason given to tourists on punt tours is that the original builder was not paid in full for his work, and therefore he took a wedge of the ball instead as payment. Wikipedia has a more prosaic explanation.

I only realised how difficult it can be to take photos when it is you and your mates' first attempt at punting. It did not help that our punt would quite frequently get rammed by more experienced punts correctly observing the right of way on the river. The punt in this picture was pulling away after another mid-river collision.

Below one of the bridges along the Cam. I think it is the one near Trinity. Can't be more precise because I was trying to steer us away from a bridge collision.
