Uni, Ikura & Toro Over Rice @ 仲家 Nakaya (Tsukiji)
Made by yusheng
¥1700/US$13.93. The uni is almost as good as the uni from a I had the night earlier. Ikura was similarly top-notch. The toros were some of the best toros I've had anywhere, but they were marred by the fact that they were too cold (probably just sliced from a hunk of frozen tuna earlier that morning). 仲家 Nakaya 中央区築地5-2-1築地市場場内8号館 [] 5-2-1 Tsukiji, Chuo-ku (Interior Market Building #8) (03) 3541-0211 * * * So I whipped out my trusty little camera and started to frame my food porn shot when I heard a stern call: Mister! (In Japanese). I knew it's most likely for me and my nefarious photo taking, but I plowed on, pretending I didn't hear him[1]. MISTER! I continued to frame and take my shot. MISTER!! MISTER!!!! The dude sounded really upset now. I finished with my shot and innocently looked up. What? You were talking to moi? Man, he was pissed. NO PHOTO!!!! I took my shot already so I didn't care. I put the camera away and went to town on the sushi bowl. The next guy who came in, who also happened to be a tourist, had a canmera around his neck. The sushi chef immediately told him, in a quite unfriendly way I might add, NO PHOTOS! Poor guy didn't even do anything and got yelled at right away. I don't understand these restaurant people that get so pissed about people taking photos of their food. [1] I've found that this is a good technique in dealing with these types of situations. You at least get one decent shot in before having to put the camera away. This might not work so good in situations where your camera might get confiscated, however.

Age Is No Barrier
Made by ajpscs
no rules, no limitations, no boundaries it's like an art @Ginza is a district of Chūō Ward, Tokyo, AGE IS NO BARRIER Japan's population, currently 128,085,000, experienced a high growth rate during the 20th century, as a result of scientific, industrial, and social changes. Population growth has more recently decreased, because of falling birth rates and almost no net immigration. High sanitary and health standards produce a life expectancy exceeding that of any other nation in the world. The population started declining in 2005, as the 1.067 million births were exceeded by the 1.077 million deaths. Assuming current birth and death rates, the 2005 population of 127 million will decline to 100 million in 2050, and 64 million in 2100--and keep falling. The main problem will be the financial crisis that comes from having a higher and higher Dependency ratio (that is, nonworking young and old compared to working ages.) Dinner Cruise
Made by /\ltus
Yakatabune are one of the most popular and best-kept entertainment secrets in Japan. Yakata means roof and bune means boat, so its name describes exactly what it looks like - a boat with a roof. These narrow boats usually carry 20 to 100 passengers and are especially built for pleasure cruising down Japan's rivers. Excursions along Tokyo's Sumida River, Kyoto's Kamo River and Osaka's Yodo River are particular favorites. Dating back to the Heian period (794-1185 A.D.), yakatabune were luxuries afforded only to the privileged daimyo and shogun. It was not until the Edo period that yakatabune became accessible to commoners. In fact, it was during the Edo period that the Japanese culture flourished, and now yakatabune have become a lasting tradition among true-blue Tokyoites. Quoted from: www.thingsasian.com/stories-photos/2021 Non-HDR shot taken last Thursday of the whole family enjoying an evening meal on a boat in the middle of Tokyo Bay. Tokyo, Japan.

Back to Human Life
Made by Dr. Akira TAKAUE
Rainbow bridge located at the entrance structure of the Tokyo bay is one of the typical beautiful suspension bridges in Japan. The superstructure consists of double deck road and railway. There are a lot of photos of rainbow bridge including illuminations on the opposite side such as Fuji-Television in public but this composition has not been seen anywhere. I'm a bridge designer, so wanted to put an important point of the detailed structure of the trussed superstructure and lighted white tower to the composition. Tsukishima Night Skyscraper
Made by Dr. Akira TAKAUE
Since Hijiribashi- bridge shot, I have not kept any time to visit the center of Tokyo. In this Saturday night, I had some time going around mainly Tokyo bay area. I was really exciting touching brilliant night scenery, took over 50 shots there. Today one of them I'm now updating. This area is Tsukishima area where rapidly skyscrapers are building up for comparatively rich people. The daylight shot of this composition are often on TV but I have never seen the night shot. Yes, that's good idea. TSUKISHIMA, TOKYO, JAPAN, 2010 NIKON D700 & Ai AF Nikkor 50mm F1.4D Tripod-held and RAW

Tokyo Tempest
Made by /\ltus
Another shot taken with my new Lumix LX5. This was of Typhoon #9 that blew through Tokyo last week but facing to the East (versus the other shot facing the South). Skies had a surreal purple tone. However tweaked this one to be red to give the cityscape a bit more of a dark demeanor, thus 'Tempest' in the title. Would've been better for me to shoot this in HDR, but shot this while *moving* down in an elevator with glass windows. Am most pleased with the quality the LX5 gave me in a low light shot while moving. Tokyo, Japan.

The Goodrich Groundcam in Ginza: Tokyo, Japan
Made by Alfie | Japanorama
This is me just playing, ahead of using this technique for a more serious photoshoot: camera on monopod, flipped upside down and rested on my shoe. Cable release attached to the camera to fire the shutter. Great aspect. Wanna pan and move the camera, just turn around, pivot your foot. Can be used nice and covertly as well; chin resting on top of monopod, cable-release out of site. Takes a while, if at all sometimes, for people to notice what you are doing. Nikon D300 Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 Shot straight to mono in-camera as JPEG

Rebel without a cause
Made by alexdecarvalho
From Wikipedia: Yamanba (ヤマンバ, Yamanba?) sometimes written as yamamba, is a fashion trend among young Japanese women. Starting with the bleached white hair and heavy tan of the ganguro girl, the yamanba adds white lipstick, white eye makeup, and sometimes brightly colored contacts, plastic clothing, and inappropriate accessories. Some yamanba wear stuffed animals as decorations, talk with a slurred speech, and enjoy shiny neon or dayglo colors. Posted to group.

Tokyo, Japan
Made by /\ltus
I posted a non-HDR version of this shot a few months back and just tonight noticed that I had actually taken bracketed shots as well of the same scene and had done HDR rendering to it. Only noticed now because I'm doing some drive cleaning this evening and came across this (and a few others) that I had yet to post. Posting this because I actually like this one to the other one, as the neon comes out better. 3xp handheld HDR rendered shot taken with my (at the time) new LX5 point-n-shoot Lumix Tokyo Station, Japan.

Illuminated Eitai-bashi Bridge 1926
Made by Dr. Akira TAKAUE
This blue colored illuminated bridge is a steel arched bridge, constructed in 1926, named Eitaibashi bridge in Tokyo located near Tsukishima skyscraper. Of course this bridge is really famous for the illumination so there are a lot of concerned photos in the internet, but I do not like most of their post editing and composition. I've been wanted to get one by my own capability. Finally I did it. TSUKISHIMA, TOKYO, JAPAN, 2010 NIKON D700 & Ai AF Nikkor 50mm F1.4D Tripod-held and RAW

Another cameraphone shot... as it Is starting to become customary of me snapping a few shots off with my Nokia cameraphone while on late-afternoon runs from the office after work. Most shots aren't worth keeping/posting, but a few from time to time pop up that I'd like to keep for posterity's sake. Non HDR shot taken as I was crossing one of the many bridges in the Shinkawa area of Tokyo (click the MAP link to the right under additional information to see where I was).

Nihonbashi
Made by /\ltus
I normally don't like to post older pics as I tend to use Flickr as a photoblog of me and the Family's life. However was going through and deleting old photos that I ended up not posting (thus relegated to Trash) and came across one I believe I forgot to post back in December. It captures Nihonbashi on a typical early evening, so am posting for posterity's sake. Non-HDR shot taken with my Canon IXY 910S on my way home one frigid evening last December in Tokyo, Japan.

Celluloid
Made by The Devil in the Detail
Finally had a chance to go walkabout after work on SUnday evening. The light in early evening in Tokyo when all the lights are just starting to come on but there is still blue in the sky is just perfect for shooting urban landscapes. Usually it is dinner time with the kids which is why I so rarely have a chance to get out at this time of evening. This is a building in front of Tokyo station that I like the curves and metallic lustre of. Explored Sept 14th

Tokyo Typhoon
Made by /\ltus
Was making my way out of the office this evening and was treated to a surreal sky as Typhoon #9 was barreling down on Tokyo. This marks the first post using my new Lumix DMC-LX5. Bought it because my old Lumix was starting to show its age after 3 years of dependable use (that's the excuse I gave myself in upgrading to the latest Lumix ;-) Non-HDR shot taken overlooking the Yaesu side of Tokyo Station as Typhoon #9 blows through. Tokyo, Japan.
