Have a sunny day…
Made by NaPix -- (Time out)
Narcissus is the botanic name for a genus of mainly hardy, mostly spring-flowering, bulbs in the Amaryllis family native to Europe, North Africa, and Asia. There are also several Narcissus species that bloom in the autumn. Though Hortus Third cites 26 wild species, Daffodils for North American Gardens cites between 50 and 100 including species variants and wild hybrids. Through taxonomic and genetic research, it is speculated that over time this number will probably continue to be refined. Daffodil is a common English name, sometimes used now for all varieties, and is the chief common name of horticultural prevalence used by the American Daffodil Society. The range of forms in cultivation has been heavily modified and extended, with new variations available from specialists almost every year. from Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissus_(plant)

Happy Red Tomato Bokeh Wednesday
Made by NaPix -- (Time out)
The tomato (Lycopersicon lycopersicum, syn. Solanum lycopersicum) is an herbaceous, usually sprawling plant in the Solanaceae or nightshade family, as are its close cousins tobacco, chili peppers, potato, and eggplant. The tomato is native to Central, South, and southern North America from Mexico to Argentina. Evidence supports the theory that the first domesticated tomato was a little yellow fruit, ancestor of L. cerasiforme, grown by the Aztecs in Mexico who called it ‘xitomatl’ (pronounced shi-to-ma-tlh), meaning plump thing with a navel. 125 million tonnes of tomatoes were produced in the world in 2005, with China, the largest producer, accounting for about one-fourth of the global output followed by United States and Turkey. According to FAOSTAT, the top producers of tomatoes (in tonnes) in 2005 were: from Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomato

Explore #37 Wednesday, September 2, 2009 Explore Front Page Apple Bokeh Wednsday Bonsai (盆栽) (lit. bon-planted) is the art of aesthetic miniaturization of trees, or of developing woody or semi-woody plants shaped as trees, by growing them in containers. Cultivation includes techniques for shaping, watering, and repotting in various styles of containers. 'Bonsai' is a Japanese pronunciation of the earlier Chinese term penzai (盆栽). A 'bon' is a tray-like pot typically used in bonsai culture. The word bonsai is used in the West as an umbrella term for all miniature trees in containers or pots. …

pitchers full of bokeh

thank you for your wonderfully enthusiastic response to this series. I will post a few more shortly. FYI: These pitcher plants were displayed inside a glass case: an additional photo-challenge on top of the low light/no tripod issue. It proves that the Lumix G1 is a OK at 800 ISO.

Dan and I went to the Montreal Botanical Gardens, and while there, we nipped into the Insectarium. My pictures here didn't really turn out, but many of Dan's did - but this one - the eight little eyes of this tarantula - worked just fine. Ew.

Apparently this is where Celine Dion was married. People from Quebec really love Celine! This is not the best picture, but it was the best picture we were able to take with no flash. It was really dark in there...

The outside gardens are split into many themes - this is the Chinese Garden. Unforunately, I only visited about 4 or 5 of the different outdoor sites becuase of the rain.
