One end of the island was full of old junk boats (which I will be posting photos of soon) and the other end of the island had a nice little beach with this lone sailboat. With the nice clouds in the sky and the green hilly island in the background, I figured it would make a great subject for an HDR. 3 exposure HDR (-1,0,+1) processed in photomatix Additional detail work done in Photoshop elements and Topaz Adjust Canon EOS 550D (T2i) Quantaray 18-200mm lens (shot at 21mm) F/5.6 ISO 100 (Varied exposure times due to multiple exposures) Any comments, feedback, notes, faves or constructive criticism is greatly appreciated!

Salesian Retreat House, Hong Kong

Salesian Retreat House, Hong Kong
Made by richardwonghk 2
Here is one of my architectural drawigs of Hong Kong historial buildings. South Facade Built in 1963. Name and Address: Salisian Retreat House, No. 21 Don Bosco Road, Nam Tam Wan, Cheung Chau 名稱及地址: 長洲南氹灣思高路21 號慈幼靜修院 From government: Established in 1957, the Salesian Retreat House was dedicated to St. John Bosco, the founder of the Salesians, who aimed at preaching the gospel throughout China. It once served as a House of Studies for the Salesian priests, and now it serves as a tranquil place of worship for prayers. The first Salesian ever to become the Bishop of Hong Kong, Bishop Joseph Zen Ze-kiun, also taught in the Building for six years. The European facade of the Building also witnessed the segregation of the Western and Chinese communities suggested by the Cheung Chau (Residence) Ordinance of 1919, which delineated the Peak district and the southern portion of Cheung Chau as an European residential area until the repeal of ordinance in 1946.

These are preserved salted fish (鹹魚) hanging to dry in Cheung Chau (長洲), an island in Hong Kong. I haven't been to Cheung Chau in years. I remember coming here to bike when I was younger. It's still a great place to go relax when you want to get away from the rush of the city life. Next time, you're in Hong Kong, be sure to check out some of the islands. They have a lot to offer. I'd like to dedicate this photo to my friend who wrote me a testimonial. Not only is he a talented photographer, he is also an amazing composer! You can also check out his piano pieces on youtube. The Guardian's Legend: It is believed that the Chow Chow breed of Chinese dogs is one of the native dogs used as the original model for the creation of Chinese guardian lions in ancient China where no one had ever seen a real lion before. When travelling Buddhist monks brought stories about Buddhist temples and palaces in India being guarded by these stone lions, Chinese sculptors modeled statues of Fu or Foo lions, the lions of Buddha, after these native dogs and created an icon of an animal never before seen in China, the Chinese guardian lions.

Perhaps my scanner is getting old, but it is not older than 5. Scanning 135 colour negatives are increasingly challenging with my Epson 4990. The left and right sides of the photo display some brownish tint, as if the photo was charred. On b/w, it isn't as prominent, and most people wouldn't notice the two bands, which in the case of b/w would be gray and not brownish. The phenomenon is both puzzling and annoying to me as I don't seem to be able to avoid or get rid of it. v700 or coolscan 9000, that is the question. either way, my wallet will suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous price tags.

Pak Tai: Conqueror of Evil

Pak Tai: Conqueror of Evil

Temple dedicated to Pak Tai Pak Tai (Yuen Tin Sheung Tai), was a prince of the Shang Dynasty. During the fall of the Shang Dynasty, the Demon King ravaged the world. The Taoist Primeval Deity (also known as Yuen Chi Tin Chuen then ordered the Jade Emperor to appoint Pak Tai as the commander of twelve heavenly legions to fight the evil. Pak Tai defeated the Demon King and was subsequently granted the title of Supreme Emperor of the Dark Heaven. In Pak Tai temples, the bronze tortoise and serpent under the feet of Pak Tai's image signifies that the good always prevails over the evil.

View On Black this guy seems to always be sitting on his chair with his feet on the stool and looking up at the canopy whenever i passed by him. for months, i had been looking for an opportunity to take a candid shot of this guy whenever i went to the island cheung chau. as if endowed with psychic powers, he has always turned and stared at me while i tried to point my camera at him. this time was no exception, only that my shutter went off just a split second before his psychic powers warned him.

The Dragon's Pearl

The Dragon's Pearl
Made by Justin Gaurav Murgai
The Legend The luminous ball or pearl often depicted under the dragon's chin or seen to be spinning in the air, pursued by one or two dragons is thought to be a symbolic representation of the 'sacred pearl' of wisdom or yang energy. Pearl symbolism, like lunar symbolism arises from Taoist roots and the connections, are extremely complex. This pearl can be said to stand most often for 'truth' and 'life' - perhaps even everlasting life which is made available to those who perceive the truth and attain enlightenment.

this is the mcveggie sandwich sold on Cheung Chau during the Cheung Chau Bun Festival, Cheung Chau Island, Hong Kong. During the festival, the whole island goes vegetarian, and the local mcdonald's participates by not selling any meat products, and instead offer the mcveggie sandwich, which is made of mushrooms, carrots, and other vegetables. It was slightly mushy, and tasted mostly mushrooms, with a sort of vegetal aftertaste.

A Bite to Save From

Hong Kong is dotted with beaches, some grotty, some wonderful. With locals fond of heading to the seaside - especially during weekends and holidays - many of these beaches have facilities for swimmers, including shark nets laid down during the 1990s when there were several shark attacks, many of which were fatal. Recently however, due to over-exploitation, sharks are rare in Hong Kong waters.

We arrived on Cheung Chau Island just as the catch of the day was put in the sun to dry in the early afternoon sun. Many little fish and shrimps were lying around on baskets to dry in the sun. A lot end up in the famous X.O. sauce others will be stirfried into other dishes....You can always look for nice patterns in the fish.....

Love will eventually comes to you when you can wait patiently. I met this little cute stray cat just right outside this shop, she waits quietly there may be just for some food. After 30 minutes, i went back and she was still sitting so patiently just like this. i think all she needed is just some attentions and love.

Me or them? ;) The groom caught me in action and waved at me. Same thing happened when I was sneaking a shot at a couple taking wedding pictures in nyc. I guess wedding couples are in such a good mood that they don't mind when a nosy stranger takes pictures of them. Please do not use my pictures without my permission.
