Hi guys. I've decided to move my photostream to for a couple of reasons. First and foremost was that I wanted that custom URL. When I first started at flickr, I didn't realise how much photography would take over my life, so I set the custom URL to my then user-name, 5cheherazad3. Of course, that can't be changed. Now that photography has become a major part of my life, I'd prefer to have my name in the custom URL. Also, I only want to present my best work on the new URL. While I look back over the last two years worth of photos on this stream, I can see big changes in my style, technique etc. It's great to have that all here for posterity but I want to put my best foot forward on the new stream. Another reason is that I like to try and comment on every single person that leaves a personal comment on my photos (not the cut and paste comments though). Lately, it's become a bit unwieldy on this stream and I'm struggling to keep up. I believe that if someone takes the time to write a personal comment then it's only fair and considerate to return the gesture. I'll be a bit more circumspect on the new stream so as to minimise the cut and paste comments. Then I can concentrate on leaving personal comments on my contacts' photos. Another reason for the change is a recent increase in the amount of spam flickrmails that I've been receiving. I'm hoping to minimse that with my new stream. Finally, now that I've become a student, that is going to be my main focus. Therefore I won't be posting as regularly - possibly once or twice a week on the new stream. So in the coming weeks, I'll be adding my regular contacts to my new contact list on the new photostream. It's going to take a while but it will be worth it. But I need to ask you a favour. To make the job easier would you mind coming on over to my new stream and either comment on the latest photo over there and/or make me a contact. That will make it so much easier to make sure I don't lose any of my trusted contacts. Thanks! Thanks for reading all of that and I'll say, have a great weekend. I'll see you on the flipside. All Saints Anglican Church

All Saints Anglican Church
Made by William Bullimore
From Wikipedia: All Saints Anglican Church, Wickham Terrace, Brisbane is the oldest Anglican Church in the City of Brisbane, first founded in 1862. The existing structure dates from 1869. For most of its history, it has been identified with the High Church or Anglo-Catholic tradition within Anglicanism. The present church, was opened for worship on the Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 8 September 1869, although some alterations were still taking place into the early 1870s. Its style is nineteenth century Gothic Revival, with buttressed walls of rough faced rubble, porphyry and sandstone, and a metal clad roof. The interior has a fine example of a hammer-beam ceiling, which is rare in Australia. All Saints' Church has played a significant part in the story of Brisbane's development into a city of culture and significance. Well-known identities who worshipped at All Saints' in the nineteenth century included Sir Robert Ramsey Mackenzie, Sir James Dickson, (both of whom served as Premiers of Queensland, the latter becoming Minister of defence in the first Commonwealth Government), Mrs Mary Peattie, and the Hon. John Douglas. To this day, All Saints' is regarded by many as the Parish Church of the City of Brisbane. It contains the oldest stained glass in Queensland as well as other significant art works, such as the first public work of the acclaimed Brisbane sculptor, Daphne Mayo (the 14 Stations of the Cross). The cathedral is situated on the outskirts of the city centre and is the successor to an earlier pro-cathedral on William Street in the heart of the central business district which was predated by All Saints Wickham Terrace (1862), the oldest Anglican church in Brisbane. The cathedral possesses a four manual pipe organ, the largest cathedral organ in Australia, which hosts many recitalists from across the world: Pearson's design (and stone-vaulting) creates a five-second reverberation making organ-music particularly resonant. St John's Cathedral is unique in Australia as the completion of the building design was achieved through collaboration between clergy, stonemasons and architects over a period of almost 100 years, as with Romanesque and Gothic cathedrals in the Middle Ages and, more recently, 20th century cathedrals such as Liverpool Cathedral in England, St John the Divine in New York and Washington National Cathedral in Washington DC. It is also the only Victorian Gothic cathedral under construction in Australia.

About . Taken tonight during a Flickr meet. Thanks to all those who made it along I hope it was all worth while This shot is my first Panoramic taken with my new 24-70 f/2.8 L lens, as you can see the field of view is a lot narrower than the 10-20mm shots. This is 27 shots (HDR, 3 shots at each section) stitched in Autopano Pro. This was funny to take, as I was shooting the last frames the rays hit, so I had to go back and re-shoot that section, lucky I had a point of reference.... ;) or and just in case you did not know, the birds are ..................... photoshoped! Enjoy. - ISO 100, f9, 1/160 24mm. - Canon 24-70 f/2.8 L Lens. - Tripod. Processing - HDR, 27 exposures, 9x3HDR [2,0,+2EV] shot in RAW/ISO100 at f9, using a Canon 24-70 f/2.8 lens. - Stitched in AutoPano Pro. - Contrast and Saturation in Photoshop 6.0. - Borders added using Lightroom 2.2. - Added a few birds for a little fun. HDR - Tone mapped using Photomatix HDR, in detail mode. Panorama In its most general sense, a panorama (from Greek ) is any wide view of a physical space. It has also come to refer to a wide-angle representation of such a view whether in painting, drawing, photography, film/video, or a three-dimensional model. Further, the motion-picture term, pan or panning, is derived from panorama. The word was originally coined by the Irish painter Robert Barker to describe his panoramic paintings of Edinburgh, shown on a cylindrical surface and viewed from the inside, they were exhibited in London in 1792 as The Panorama.

Golden Gate - Story Bridge Brisbane Queensland Australia

Looking down stream towards the Bay with Fishermen Island where the Great ship Mignon will arrive the next morning. The Story Bridge looks like a Golden Gate over the Brisbane River In 1926 Kangaroo Point was recommended by the Brisbane City Council's Cross River Commission.[1] Subsequently the bridge was constructed as a public works program during the Great Depression. A contract was awarded to Evans Deakin-Hornibrook Constructions Limited on 30 April 1935. The cost was to be no more than ₤1.6 million. Brisbane time-lapse video.ogv Time-lapse of Brisbane and Story Bridge Construction on the bridge began on 24 May 1935,[2] with the first sod being turned by the then Premier of Queensland, William Forgan Smith. Work sometimes continued 24 hours per day.[3] On the 28 October 1939 the gap between the two sides was closed.[2] Until it was completed the bridge was known as the Jubilee Bridge in honour of King George V. It was opened on 6 July 1940 by Sir Leslie Orme Wilson, Governor of Queensland and named for John Douglas Story, a senior and influential public servant who had advocated strongly for the bridge's construction. The design for the bridge was based heavily on that of the Jacques Cartier Bridge in Montreal, completed in 1930. The Story Bridge features prominently in the annual Riverfire display and is illuminated at night. In 1990 road traffic was halted so pedestrians could celebrate the 50th anniversary of the bridge's construction. Bridge climbs began in 2005 and are becoming a major tourist attraction.

Customs House is a Brisbane landmark known for its distinctive copper dome. The building was designed by Charles McLay of the Queensland Colonial Architect's Office... The building became redundant when port facilities moved to the Port of Brisbane at the mouth of the Brisbane River, resulting in its closure in April 1988. The building is now leased by the University of Queensland and was refurbished between 1991 and 1994, at a cost of A$7.5 million.

Experiments in Time Travel

I got the idea for this picture from a composition I saw many years ago. It was an wide angle shot of an American city scape, where the scene went from night to day from the left to right of the shot. I remember looking at it at the time wondering how this was achieved? I read at the time that it was multiple shots blended in Photoshop to create a seamless image. I started thinking about this not long ago and though I would try something similar. I looked for a sunrise location that had some interest on both sides of the shot, in this case the illuminated city on the right and the sun rising over the story bridge on the left. I found my spot, set up my tripod and took bracketed exposures from right to left for almost 2 hours. I really had no idea if it would work until I got to the end of stitching and blending everything together, apart from a few blurred lines and shadowing here and there I think it came out ok. I learnt a lot both in taking the original pictures and the post processing that will help next time I try something like this. Special thanks to my patient wife for her Photoshop help, sometimes a person can answer a question so much quicker than Google...

In 1917, the Queensland Government Printer's Office became the flash point for a showdown over the conscription issue during World War I. Queensland Premier T.J. Ryan and his Deputy E.G. Theodore opposed conscription while Australian Prime Minister William Huhges supported it. Ryan and Theodore defied the PM by publishing a full Queensland parliamentary debate on conscription in Hansard (the parliamentary minutes). Consequently the Office was raided on the 26th of November 1917 and copies of Hansard were seized. Also, 50 000 copies of a four page Government Gazette Extraordinary which set out the anti-censorship and anti-conscription cases were seized. However, the Premier refused to be censored and repeated his statement to a large gathering of people on the 28th November 1917. Finally, in December 1917, largely because of Ryan's and Theodore's advocacy, a national conscription referendum was again defeated. This is an experiment in HDR. I took this shot of the keystone above the Government Printer's Office entrance on Saturday when I went on a photo excursion with . Let me know what you think.

Change Of Season

Change Of Season
Made by Meremail
I have seen many photos from my Flickr friends lately where they are rejoicing in the change of season in the northern hemisphere. Those of us living in the tropical parts of Australia are also rejoicing, because we have a different name for this season - MANGO SEASON. I have posted shots of the Flying Fox (Fruit Bat) menace in Queensland before, and they are in unbelievable numbers. You can't imagine it until you see a swarm flying overhead. They are public enemy No1 for the mango and lychee farmers in this state. They can devastate a farm as they strip and take a bite out of lots of mangoes, and some farmers are reporting up to 60% crop loss, which is unsustainable. Farmers were in the habit of shooting (at) scout Flying Foxs who are searching for food for the hordes, and that has been banned, as the greenies and the farmers fight it out, and the green flag seems to be at the top of the pole. The colour green shown here does not necessarily represent the interests of the photographer. for best dreamy goodness. Yellow Theme

I took 2 shots from Eagle St Pier in Brisbane back in early August last year - one at 4.00 am, the other around 7 am. Since then a lot of things have happened, in Brisbane and Qld generally, there was a siege involving a deranged man, police helicopters etc where I pretty much took this shot. One of his early demands was a bacon and egg mcmuffin, a demand which the police weren't able to satisfy because it was past 10 am and Maccas weren't serving breakfast (as reported by the local paper). There's been a major flood and the city cats such as the one in this shot aren't currently operating (but are starting to come back at the end of the month, including at Eagle St pier). And as I post there is a category 5 cyclone ripping through North Qld. We'll find out tomorrow morning what the damage is but I imagine it is going to be bad (probably an understatement). Anyway, I hope people can find a way to break on through to recover. All we can do is rebuild and learn from experience.

Had arranged to meet up with and Andrew for a nice little walk along the Brisbane River at Kangaroo Point. We were all going a bit crazy with all the rain and not being able to go out and shoot. Decided to go out today no matter what the weather would be like. Chris had suggested Kangaroo Point as a good spot with some possibilities of some nice reflections. We were rewarded with an absolutely beautiful morning, almost completely still, some perfect reflections and some nice colours even though there weren't any clouds. ;-) Kangaroo Point is a beautiful area with walking tracks, bike tracks and even a cliff face that can be used as a rock climbing wall. No wonder a lot of Brisbanites enjoy the area in the mornings and on the weekends. Thanks for a great morning to both Chris and Andrew. 6 shot pano HDR (-1 3/4 - 0 - +1 3/4) Focal length 18mm f11 ISO100 Base 0.3 sec. blended in Photomatix and edited using Luminosity Masks.

Explore #147 on Monday January 5,2009 Kangaroo Point is a popular recreation spot, conveniently close to the city and the South Bank Parklands. The Kangaroo Point Cliffs, situated on the east bank of the city bend of the Brisbane River north of the Maritime Museum, opposite the Brisbane River Stage and the Queensland University of Technology at Gardens Point. The cliffs and Brisbane River Stage as seen from the QUT on the opposite bank The cliffs are a popular picnic, rock climbing and abseiling site. The steepness of the cliffs was increased by quarrying operations which mined the volcanic rock or rhyolite lava flows which form the cliffs. These lavas were deposited in the Tertiary period about 30 million years ago and filled up an ancient river valley. They currently form the banks of the Brisbane River. The Story Bridge is a prominent landmark, and provides the main means of access to the north of Brisbane. Directly under the bridge is the Storey Bridge Hotel.

2010-08-19 - Brisbane City Sunrise NOTE: Image Updated on 2011-05-08 - replaced with new Imacon 343 scan version. Following my initial daylight tests, it was time to take the GX617 for a real shoot :) First port of call was the waterfront on the Brisbane River just past the Kangaroo Point Cliffs. I've never shot a sunrise from here either, which made it better :) This is the second shot from this particular roll of film. The first, unfortunately, was slightly messed up :( Being a rookie (which means still learning!), I had been focusing with the ground glass before loading the film, meaning you need the shutter open in bulb mode... I actually forgot to close the shutter before loading the film :) :) Luckily, it was so dark that there's only a few horizontal streaks in a otherwise perfect shot - I'll upload it when I get it fixed. Decided to get up early again to capture the Brisbane River in all it's cloudless glory. I can't believe all the fitness freaks at that time making it very difficult with all the vibration to get my 6 frames for a pano, why do they have to jog so hard, can't they see I'm trying to take a photograph. By the end I was getting a bit abusive and eventually I had to scamper as a group was ready to gang up on me. Anyway it's time to head home from my Brisbane photography trip and even though I've had a lot of fun and captured some nice shots I wont be coming back to soon. Sorry Queensland, you might of won the State Of Origin but NSW certainly has more to offer in every way and I'm convinced I made the right decision to leave 25 years ago, the joggers feel the same way. www.leadinglinesphotography.com.au/

Anyway, I took this picture during a lightening storm from our 21st floor hotel appartment in Brisbane last week and it just had to be my first upload from my Ozzie collection of pics. This was my first experience of a tropical lightening storm and I just couldn't believe how awesome it was. This image just about does it justice! I've done no post processing on this image except to slightly crop it where I'd caught the window frame in shot.
