71014_1977_01_Hither_Green
Made by johnwoolley@btopenworld.com
71014 in store at Hither Green, 22nd January 1977. As part of the BTC Modernisation plan of 1955 twenty four electric locomotives were built at Doncaster works for the Kent Coast main lines. They were mixed-traffic locomotives and their 2700 hp packed quite a punch for a small Bo-Bo locomotive, proving useful for both heavy freight and express passenger duties. However they were not as versatile as the class 73 electro-diesels in coping with engineering possessions with the 3rd rail power being switched off and they lacked the ability to operate into yards where there was no 3rd rail supply or operate off the Southern Region. In the late 1960s, ten examples were withdrawn and were converted between 1967 and 1968 at Crewe works into class 74 electro diesels. The remaining fourteen locomotives were renumbered 71001 - 71014 under the 1973 TOPS scheme. By the end of 1976 there was a surplus of locomotives on the Southern Region and the obviouse solution was to dispence with the less versatile class 71. After spending most of 1977 in store all fourteen locomotives were withdrawn in November 1977. 71009 ended its days at Doncaster works being broken up in full working order in September 1979, purely because it had no work.

Old Ladywell Baths
Made by helenoftheways
Ladywell Road, London SE13, Obviously this was once a most beautiful building, although languishing now. Built in 1884 by Wieson, Son & Aldwinkle, in deep red brick, notable for its Gothic arches and the circular tower, which has lost its conical cap. High on the wall is a Metropolitan Police property mark. It is a grade 2 listed building now. It was built at a cost of £9,000 on a site procured by the vicar of the adjacent St Mary's Church. At the time, a local paper commented on the juxtaposition of church and baths that 'cleanliness was next to Godliness'!!

60004
Made by VR Traction
Class 60 locos seem to a bit rare in traffic nowadays, as much of the fleet has been mothballed. 60004 arrived at Hoo Junction originally designated as a temporary shunting loco, as one of the class 09 shunting locos has been withdrawn due to a mechanical failure, and no class 08's or 09's replacements being available at present. It seems that due to loco shortages 60004 is stretching her legs by getting out & about. Here we see her on a regular trip working to Hither Green PAD.

67/365 Robins
Made by clogsilk
Captured these yesterday, but made the collage in picnik today. Mike and the kids put up a bird feeder at the weekend and the birds have discovered it. I absolutely love robins, so I was so chuffed when one landed on the feeder and proceeded to dig in. I was even happier that I had the 70-300mm lens on the camera so I was able to capture these shots without disturbing the moment at all. The only thing I am not happy with is how dirty our kitchen window is!!

Shogun sushi set at Sapporo Ichiban, Catford, London SE6
Made by Kake Pugh
This was £16.80, for eight nigiri (there's some mackerel out of shot and I can't remember what the eighth one was), seven pieces of sashimi, and six pieces of maki (three cucumber, three pickle). Some of the fish was a bit mushy, particularly the seabass. Sapporo Ichiban on the Randomness Guide to London.

London Country (National London) YEL97Y
Made by MBS473
New to Black & White, this ECW bodied Leyland Leopard had become part of the London Country controlled National London fleet by 1986 when seen here at the Catford depot of this operation (coded NL by LCBS). Upon the split of LCBS the National London fleet was dispersed amongst the new companies and this coach became part of the South East company, later known as Kentish Bus.

Jersey Tiger Moth
Made by helenoftheways
All of a sudden, all these fairly rare Jersey Tiger Moths have appeared round my house! They only started to be seen in Britain last year - must be climate change. This one is on the outside of my window, so this is the underbelly you see! (The round reflection is the lens of my camera!) Topside to follow... : something flat against a window

Attempting to buy fresh fish led me to drive across most of South East London from Herne Hill (shop in receivership) to Dulwich (shop closed) to Catford (looked like the fish had been there for quite some time) to (i'm sorry to say) sainsburys. Here we're in Catford.... Pentacon Six TL | Carl Zeiss Biometar 80/2.8 | Fuji NEOPAN 400 | Rodinal

73001 & 33209 & 33053 Hither Green 20Mar76
Made by david.hayes77
SR motive power on parade. A relatively clean line-up at Hither Green DD in South London comprises class 73 no. 73001 and class 33s nos. 33209 and 33053. The narrow body of the former, built to the Hastings line gauge, is clear in this shot. Taken on 20th March 1976, when permission to wander around a BR diesel depot was more freely given

Bella
Made by helenoftheways
I was highly entertained by this lady in the park today - her owner was throwing up to 5 sticks for her, and she insisted on picking them all up! Dogs will usually drop the stick they have, and pick up the next one, but not Bella! She even chooses the order she collects them, so that they all fit in her mouth properly!! :)

You may not know this....

....but the best way to know if spaghetti is ready to eat, is to chuck a piece against the tiles in your kitchen! If it slithers down the wall & plops on the floor - it isn't! If it stays there - strain it, add the sauce, heap it on your plate and enjoy! :And yes, we had spaghetti tonight, cooked to perfection!

Here I am with Sam Kirk, a fellow (ex) T189 student at her current exhibition in Lewisham. Sam's work is lovely and the framing she has used really sets off her images, plus she only used enviormentally friendly wood for the frames. I think it's great when we get to meet each other. I wonder who'll be next...!

Roses are...well, all sorts of colours!
Made by helenoftheways
My latest hobby is collecting roses from neighbors' gardens - the ones that hang over onto the pavement! But not just any rose - only the ones with really sweet perfume! These four are from completely different bushes, and the perfume in my sittingroom is intense - my chicken's really getting off on it!! :)

Jersey Tiger Moths
Made by helenoftheways
I caught these two on the bay window area of the building I live in. I think they've got hanky panky on their mind! They're very striking, and you think they're butterflies at first, they're so big. They have only been seen in the UK since last year, so I believe. When they fly, they look bright orange.

Anonymous love...
Made by helenoftheways
..under the weeping willow tree. I'm always amused at how so many young couples use this tree for their trysts! I think they must be forbidden loves in some way, as they can control the path from both directions, and hide their faces accordingly. It would be so much simpler to meet on a park bench! :)

33201 Hither Green 11.7.81
Made by D9006
At exactly 06:00hrs on the morning of 11th July 1981 33201 (D6586) is seen at its home depot Hither Green. The locomotive was withdrawn from service in October 1993 and was purchased by the BRC Workgroup and stored at Coventry Steam Railway until a proper home was found at The Midland Railway Centre.

Impromptu salsa in the park! 3
Made by helenoftheways
The park was heaving with people yesterday due to the warm weather. This couple were trying to do a photoshoot in the bandstand (with salsa music as ambience), but so many kids got interested that they decided to do some salsa instead! They decided to give the kids a salsa lesson! :)

RT189 on route 47 Lewisham
Made by John A King
This view of Lewisham High Street, outside Lewisham Hospital dates from April 1968. RT 189, HLW 176 is on route 47 to Farnborough. Not very much has changed over the years, the RT has gone of course, and the 47 now only runs as far as Catford Garage. Bus lanes now run along the road.
