Capri is an Italian island off the Sorrentine Peninsula. On the south side of the Gulf of Naples, it has been a celebrated beauty spot and resort since the time of the Roman Republic. • The town of and its surrounding villas and hikes
  • Blue Grotto - The Blue Grotto is a beautiful cave at the water's edge with a tiny opening to the sea that opens and closes with the tide, used as a bath since the Roman times. The entrance is small and depending on the tide there is just enough space for only a small rowboat to get through. Dark at the entrance, one has to enter 20-30 yards and then turn around to view the beautiful sight of the light from the entrance flowing through the water lit turquoise from by the sun. Hence the sight of the "Blue Grotto". You'll be amazed at the turquoise hues glimmering in the water and against the rocks. The grotto often closes due to tides and waves, and it may take a while for your boat to get in, with many other boats trying to do the same. It may also be advisable to check the tides beforehand to avoid disappointment. The round trip boat from Marina Grande to outside the tavern costs €9, then €4.50 or higher for the rowboat to take you in through the tiny entrance, plus €4 admission to the cave a total of around €20, with a round trip of about 1 to 3 hours. Alternatively, one can take a bus to Anacapri, walking 100m (inquire locally), then taking another bus to the Grotta Azzurra, and then paying €9 for a rowman to take you in and out. This has the advantage of cutting on the cost from Marina Grande, as well as placing you near Anacapri where much else is to be seen. The grotto is open from 9:00 to one hour before sunset daily. If the grotto closes suddenly (hopefully while you are outside it), consider a €12 cruise around the magnificent Faraglioni Rocks instead.
  • Villa Jovis - Villa Jovis, the splendid residence of the Emperor Tiberius, start from Piazzetta Umberto I and turn into Via delle Botteghe, continuing straight on through Via Fuorlovado, Via Croce and, finally, Via Tiberio. After visiting the villa, you could dedicate some time to other attractions in the vicinity, such as the Church of Santa Maria del Soccorso, the Cave of Tiberius and the Lighthouse Tower.

Capri - Il "Quisisana" ... l'amore per i dettagli

Capri - Il "Quisisana" ... l'amore per i dettagli
Made by ©Soul ༽
______________________________ The Quisisana gained visibility in the world ... Capri became one of the most popular tourist destinations and the hotel enjoyed one of his first moments of glory. All the nobility of that time was a guest of Quisisana and among the most illustrious of the time was Friedrich Krupp, the German steel magnate, who have a direct connection between the Mayan Quisisana and his yacht moored in Marina Piccola Puritan and built the famous Via Krupp. This is certainly the most beautiful memory of Krupp Capri incomparable road climbing the rocks at Marina Piccola, with the gardens Krupp. These works did forget that the proceeds of the guns could not do more damage! In 1913, after a long illness, Serena died and left children and the widow of the hotel management. After few years, however the Quisisana lived a difficult and Serena were forced to sell it. In 1918 it acquired the SIA, Hotels Real Estate Company, which in time become the Italian Society Hotels. No Caprese among shareholders, in those years and in 1929 is precisely designed and built by the famous architect Gio Ponti theater. In the early sixties, the SIA was bought by Felix Mechoulam, a Mexican financier, who restored and renovated the interior of Quisisana worth making again host a high-class clientele. Mechoulam made daring works that made the functional areas of the hotel. Via Camerelle which opened earlier on the amenities of the street became the most fashionable boutiques of Capri, a small Via Condotti. In the mid-seventies passes from hand to Max Grundig, a German electrical goods magnate. Grundig also made improvements, dealing primarily to extend the service areas (laundry and kitchen) unfortunately sacrificing half of the theater. The stucco was movies in the halls of Quisisana. Grundig in 1981 decided to sell and so the following year the family came in 1982 to Quisisana Morgano, Capri finally! Today, Quisisana and a symbol of Capri, known throughout the world. Sovereign actors, writers, industrialists, singers have here. From Ernest Hemingway to Tom Cruise, by Sidney Sheldon to Gianni Agnelli, the Savoy and the Hohenzollerns, still to Claudette Colbert, Jean Paul Sartre, Harry Graf Kessler, Pietro Gadda Conti, W. Somerset Maughan, Ted Kennedy, Gerard Ford, Sting. Not be forgotten in the entertainment world as Deaf people, Proietti, Carla Fracci, Claudia Cardinal, Aurelio De Laurentiis, Dino and list the characters who have stayed at Quisisana would not ever. It can accommodate up to three hundred people with over 200 employees. It is almost a people. There are two restaurants: the Quisi Colombaia and around the pool. There is QuisiBeauty beauty center of the most beautiful and equipped with gymnasium, sauna, beauty salon, indoor pool and two tennis courts available to customers. A beautiful outdoor pool with solarium is the place where the events are made more prominent, from weddings to successful events. The theater has become a real ballroom. After 160 years the Quisisana continues to establish itself among the Leading Hotels of the World , Morgano and satisfaction of having finally made Capri . It is the work of Pina and Mario Morgano and their children who continue the tradition and the task of preserving the Capri Quisisana who is the true jewel.

Capri Between Rock and Sea n.4 "I Faraglioni dallo Scoglio delle Sirene"
Made by Alessandro Scoppa
This first series of photographs is called Capri Between Rock and Sea. It shows several Capri's views, some very famous, some other less, but all have in common the point of view: the exact point hard rocks meet soft sea. The Photograph No. 4 is taken at the beginning of 2009, at Marina Piccola, one of the most beautiful beaches of the island. It shows the view of the Faraglioni, the famous Capri's rocks, from the Scoglio delle Sirene, the Mermaids Rock. The legend tells that, during his wandering, Ulysses passed with his ship and men near Capri Island, right in front of this rock, where the mermaids were trying to entice him; Ulysses, who wanted to hear their stupendous but so dangerous voice, stopped up his men ears with wax, and ordered them to tie him at the ship's mast. In this way, he could listen to the mermaids singing, risking to go crazy with desire, but leaving from the island safe and sound! This photo is very similar to the No. 3 of the same series, but this is the only one of the series turned into black and white with the brown dominant of the selenium print. ----------------- La prima serie di fotografie è intitolata Capri Between Rock and Sea. Faraglioni

Faraglioni
Made by AndreaPucci
Capri The Faraglioni of Capri Capri’s sea giants. The Faraglioni are three blocks of rock which have survived coastal landslides, erosion by the sea and all manner of atmospheric corrosion. The rocks have each been given a name: the first, still attached to the land, is called Stella, the second, separated from the first block by a stretch of sea; Faraglione di Mezzo and the third, Faraglione di Fuori or Scopolo, in other words the head or promontory stretching into the sea. The Faraglione di Fuori is the habitat for a famous species of Podarcis sicula coerulea and is the only place where it can be found. It is thought that, following the separation from the mainland, a sort of protective chromatic adaptation resulted in the lizards' scales assuming the blue tones of the sea and sky. The height of the Faraglioni is, on average, 100 meters. In the Faraglione di Mezzo is characterized by a cavity, a natural tunnel which has become famous throughout the world. The Romans were especially fond of this area of Capri: in ancient times scattered with splendid villas and shady ninfei, later to become the much sought after retreat of artists in the nineteen hundreds and now home to exclusive residences and luxury hotels.

The Photograph No. 2, like the No. 1, is taken on last months of 2008, at the West coast of Anacapri, the highest town of Capri Island. Along the whole coast it winds the Sentiero dei Fortini pathway, so called because of the blockhouses built at the age of the barbaric invasions, and re-using by British and French soldiers in the 18th and 19th century. In this image, you can see a part of the Fortino di Mesola (Mesola's blockhouse), entirely built with stones. ----------------- La prima serie di fotografie è intitolata Capri Between Rock and Sea. taken high atop Mount Solaro on the majestic island of Capri. I swear it was one of the most beautiful sights and one of the most dangerous places i have ever taken a picture. the beauty is what you see..but the danger was that on the other side of the rail lies a nice cliff drop that tops almost 2,000 feet easy. its pretty rare to be so high above hundreds and hundreds of white seagulls flying around. This was also not the prettiest day, in fact it rained the entire time we were on the island (which was a shame) but despite the cold, gloomy, windy, and drizzly conditions i still managed to capture some of the best shots from my whole trip up there. the fields of grass flow relentlessly in the wind, the drama in the skies. for a person who's lived nearly all of his life at sea level, this was a very special moment for me. I breathed real slow, took every ounce of that fresh air, and made the most of my brief time up there. It felt so special being up so high on what seemed like the edge of the earth. I do wish to come back here someday.. You can purchase this print now! Click here

Capri (Italian pronunciation: ['kapri], often mispronounced /kə'pri:/ in English) is an Italian island in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the Sorrentine Peninsula, on the south side of the Gulf of Naples, in the Campania region of southern Italy. It has been a resort since the time of the Roman Republic. Features of the island are the Marina Piccola (Small Harbor), the Belvedere of Tragara, which is a high panoramic promenade lined with villas, the limestone masses called Sea Stacks that stand out of the sea (the Faraglioni), Anacapri, the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra), and the ruins of the Imperial Roman villas. Capri is part of the region of Campania, Province of Naples. The City of Capri is the main centre of population on Capri. It has two harbours, Marina Piccola and Marina Grande (the main port of the island). The separate commune of Anacapri is located high on the hills to the west. The etymology of the name Capri can be traced back to the Greeks, the first recorded colonists to populate the island. This means that Capri was probably not derived from the Latin Capreae (goats), but rather the Greek Kapros (wild boar).

. . which way will I dwell (My translation is only a faint attempt to render in Englis an Italian born text) So many steps too many and is no longer time for me of blank paper and pencils. No. What I did think balanced on the edge - counting the holes near the eyes in my heart - of revolutions never known while the echo of the new voice was lost dead in the language. Which way will I dwell tomorrow and now I'm moving another picture deluded to change my home. . . Guido Ranieri Da Re maggio 2009 [0185] Capri

I took this shot from the ferry that was taking us from Positano to Capri... Capri was a very interesting place in Italy.. It was obviously beautiful to look at! The people here were extremely friendly.. I guess they have to be as tourists are their means of survival.. We wound up taking a boat ride around the entire island for about 13 euro.. which was totally worth it! We wanted to go see the grotta azzurro but had no luck as there were about 20 small boats waiting to go in.. and the captain pretty much said no we're not waiting! =] I decided to go black and white on this shot because I felt that it made it look a little more dramatic! I think it came out pretty nice! Hope you enjoy! **CHECK OUT MY NEW WEBSITE!! www.anthonyaphoto.com let me know what you think!

Capri is served by ferry or hydrofoil from Naples, Sorrento, Positano or Amalfi as well as by boat services from the ports of the Gulf of Naples and the Sorrentine Peninsula. Transportation from Naples is available either at the port of Mergellina or Molo Beverello. Molo Beverello has a higher frequency of departures and larger selection of ferries and hydrofoils than Mergellina. From Naples, the ferry takes 80 minutes, and the hydrofoil 40 minutes. From Sorrento, the ferry takes about 40 minutes while the hydrofoil takes about 20 minutes. The ferry schedule is at [[http://www.capri.net/en/ship-timetable[[. Boats call at Marina Grande, from where a funicular goes up to the village of Capri. A chair lift takes passengers to the top of the island.

Wet Weekend in Capri

Wet Weekend in Capri
Made by fontograph
7 Days of Shooting | Wet | Special Story Sunday A snap here from Lauren and I's recent trip to Italy. We paid to go on a boat tour of the entire island of Capri, and the climax of this tour, would be the legendary Blue Grotto. The boat ride was amazing, and we did very little but watch the sights go by whilst basking in 35degree Summer sun... until the point of the queue. We arrived at the cave entrance and were forced to wait for over an hour with very little escape from the Sun (not so much fun without the breeze) and sea-sick bellies. However it was just about all worth it when we finally boarded the row-boat, ducked our heads to get through the small entrance and got to have a good look around inside the grotto.

PLEASE, no multi invitations, glitters or self promotion in your comments. My photos are FREE for anyone to use, just give me credit and it would be nice if you let me know. Thanks The Clock Tower, originally the Bell Tower of Saint Stephen's Cathedral, its interior was made from materials reused from the floor of the ancient Emperor Tiberius' Villa Jovis. The tower is located in Piazza Umberto I, but from the 1930's it has been known as La Piazzetta. La Piazzett, in the past was just the site of the fish market, but has since risen in prestige. Now popular for its bars, it is the choice meeting point for islanders.

The Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra) is a noted sea cave on the coast of the Italian island of Capri. The grotto has a partially submerged opening into the sea. Inside the grotto the sea seems to be lit from underwater. It is a magnificent fluorescent blue colour, hence its name. This is due to another opening to the grotto, completely submerged. It allows in sunlight to truly light the water from below. Aufnahmedatum/-zeit: 05.07.2006 11:40 Tv (Verschlusszeit): 1/8 Av (Blendenzahl): 2.0
