This is perhaps one of the most impressive modern buildings in Paris. Perhaps one reason is that it is not very formalist or modernist. It is for the most par unimposing and functional except for its courtyard entrance, which brings to mind a narrow mountain pass (though not really photographable) and its south-facing curtain wall. The wall is comprised of these square screens which have a number of electrically controlled apertures. They are photo and heat sensitive, and open and shut to moderate the building heat while letting in light. They are designed to be reminiscent of arabic perforated screens.

Université Paris X. The asbestos removal in progress is quite a logistical nightmare for the university, and does nothing to add to the unnatural beauty of the campus. I'll post some more from this shoot in the next few days.
