Atomium Brüssel - Construction - Baustelle - P1020132
Made by Andreas Helke
################################################################################### Wikipedia says: Atomium From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. What is the Atomium? Built for the 1958 Brussels World's Fair (Expo '58), the 103-meter (335-foot) tall Atomium monument represents a unit cell of an iron crystal (body-centered cubic), magnified 165 billion times, with vertical body diagonal, with tubes along the 12 edges of the cube and from all 8 vertices to the center. Nine steel spheres 18 meters in diameter connect via tubes with escalators as long as 114.8 ft., among the longest in Europe. Windows in the top sphere provide a panoramic view of Brussels. Other spheres have 1950s exhibitions. Three upper spheres lacking vertical support are not open to the public for safety reasons. The Eiffel Tower of Brussels Planned originally to last only six months, architect André Waterkeyn's design has survived to become a popular tourist attraction that some feel is a Belgian national icon rivalling Manneken Pis. It sits just next to the King Baudouin Stadium in Heysel Park (50.8948° N, 4.3415° E). Just next to it also lies the congress center, and the Mini-Europe park. [edit] Renovation Beginning in March 2004, much-needed renovation work has included replacing faded aluminum sheets on the balls with stainless steel. To help pay for renovations, the old aluminum has been sold to the public as souvenirs. A triangular piece about 6 1/2 feet long sold for $1,300. The Atomium will be closed for the public between October 2004 and January 2006. The newly renovated spheres are covered in Stainless Steel instead of Aluminium Information Location Eeuwfeestlaan/ Boulevard du Centenaire 1020 Brussels (Laken) Opening hours Sept. to March: 10 a.m. till 5.30 p.m. April to August: 9 a.m. till 7.30 p.m. Admission Adults: 5,45 € (Euro) per person Children (under 12): 3,97 € (Euro) Groups (as from 20 persons): 4,46 € (Euro) per adult person, 3,47 € (Euro) per child under 12 Senior citizens: 3,72 € (Euro)

Paris in Brussels

Bruselas, Navidad 2005. ---------------------------- Christmas time, 2005. Brussels. As each year, the Christmas Lights Festival takes place and the Grand Place, supposed to be the most beautiful square in Europe, is lit. The lights of this year were related to the different countries which form the UE. In this photo, no doubt, they were referring to France while a typical french song sounded in the whole square.
