The Great Court has a tessellated glass roof by Foster and Partners (Architects) and Buro Happold (Engineers) covering the entire court and surrounds the original circular British Museum Reading Room in the centre, now a museum. It is the largest covered square in Europe. The glass and steel roof is made up of 1,656 pairs of glass windowpanes; each of a unique shape because of the undulating nature of the roof. Taken in the British Museum Great Court, I waited for some time, looking down from the balcony above, until the inscription on the floor had only one person in its vacinity. Increasing the contrast of the image post-scan made the figure block into silhouette and the texture in the granite floor was brought out. Taken with a Canon EOS 50E on Ilford FP4 125, September 2003. This shot won me a in 2004. Ref: 531-30
